My boyfriends grandmother gave me a caterpillar and it pupated! The poor pupa fell from the top of the cage I had it in but it had already hardened by then so I think (hope) it’s okay. I’ve seen it wiggle since, so that’s a good sign! I wonder what will emerge... 🐛🦋

I was getting worried that I was slowly and unknowingly killing my caterpillars but turns out they do shrivel up real small when they pupate! were all good, guys.

I can’t remember— did I tell you guys that one of my Mecynorrhina torquata immaculicollis grubs FINALLY pupated!? It’s small, so I suspect it’s female. I’m excited either way!!
I have been pupating for far too long I need someone to come cut me out right now or I fear my body will digest itself and all that will be left of me are the mushy remnants of all my hopes and dreams turned foul
Those two in the J-hang pupated this evening. I also found another instar 5 cat when I was collecting food. The garden just keeps providing :)
That is a total of 42 caterpillars this generation! Last year, I only found 22! All the cats left are either instar 4 or 5. By the end of the week (as long as I do not find many more next week), they should have all pupated.
Goodness, I definitely have a problem! Ha ha! I found three more caterpillars when collecting food. This brings the count to 38!

Here we have one cat already in a J-hang and one looking for a place to pupate. They just keep marching along!
Grand total of 9 caterpillars left (I found two more in the garden). One of them is getting ready to pupate!
For those unaware, all of my cats are procured from a milkweed patch in my front garden. We don't use any pesticides, and I clean the leaves as I bring them in.
