It was the anniversary of his grandfather's death. Joseph faithfully visited every year to accompany his grandmother, and leave some words of his own. "I never got to know you personally gramps, but even so I feel like you've been watching over me all my life helping granny raise me. Granny Erina is doing fine and I'm going to protect her in your place.... I know you died so she could keep going and for your sacrifice I'm going to do all I can to make you proud, and create a world safe for her."
He could ask no more of the young man who grew to be an admirable force. When Jonathan was young he had always felt a missing part of himself from his deceased mother, and here his own grandson was absent both parents. Bless Joseph for being with Erina, to fill the void that he himself had left, and subsequently their son who had left the Earth in such an untimely manner.
—and though it was true they had never spoken, he had watched over them, mourning when they mourned, laughing when they laughed. His dear grandson had inherited a legacy he never meant to pass on. Yes, he could see his hamon was strong, and he knew there would be many hardships lurking in his future. If he could give Erina and Joseph peace from the troubles that had plagued his own life, he would have paid nearly any price, but it was not to be so.
“Joseph — !” he yells into the winds that course through his spirit and over the lands. His heart swelled with pride and gratitude. “ There is no way for me to return the great favor you have done for me by watching over Erina. I have left you sorrow and troubles that no young man ought to be burdened with.”
“ I could not ask for a better grandson! I am already so proud of who you’ve become!”
