This October marks and month and year that "Marty McFly" visits during his iconic trip to the future. What did the movie get right, and what isn’t quite there yet, and most importantly, where is my hover board!? Guests will have the chance to watch the second installment in the trilogy, Back to the Future II, in the Science Stage and discover what trends in technology the movie got right and what ideas aren't yet developed. Back to the Future Part II will begin at 7:30 pm in the Science Stage. Girls Rock Science - FAMILY FRIENDLY

Carnegie Science Center is working to reverse this disturbing trend through a wide range of programs, including Girls Rock Science℠ Weekend on Saturday, Oct. 3 and Sunday, Oct. 4. Carnegie Science Center is partnering with KDKA TV for a weekend designed to get girls excited about science and technology and to acquaint them with a wide range of STEM careers. Throughout the building, STEM professionals from a wide range of organizations will staff tables of interactive demonstrations and hands-on activities. On Oct. 3 only, "NCIS: Los Angeles" star Renee Felice Smith, who plays Nell Jones on the hit TV show, will headline the event and will meet and talk with families. Only on Sunday, Oct 4, beginning at 2:30 pm, visit Mission Control as we track our STRATOSTAR launch into the edge of space and return to Earth! We will be launching a special box into the edge of space during the pre-game festivities at PNC Park. The balloon that carries it through the air will pop when it reaches the stratosphere, and it will float back to Earth on a parachute. A chase team will attempt to retrieve the box. Mission Control will receive data from STRATOSTAR itself, and from the chase team. Be part of this exciting endeavor in Mission Control!

The Bernstein Project - Trouble in Tahiti

When: Wednesday, September 30th, starting at 7pm. Where: PNC Park, 115 Federal St. (Directions below.) Who: CMU graduate students may purchase up to 2 tickets. How much: $15 per ticket.
Tickets are loaded with $10 credit, which may be exchanged for goods at the event (e.g. food, drink, t-shirts).
This is a big game for the Pirates. They are currently placed 2nd in the National League Central (the Cardinals are in 1st), and this is one of the last games before the playoffs - definitely not one to miss!
Directions
Take a bus downtown, then walk over the Roberto Clemente Bridge (6th St). PNC Park will be on your left. Some bus suggestions:
71A/B/C/D to Sixth Ave and Wood St.
61A/B/C/D to Sixth Ave and Wood St.
P1 to Sixth Ave and Smithfield St.
86/88 to Penn Ave and 8th St.
Buses loop through Downtown Pittsburgh, so to return home you can go back to the same stop.

Any uncollected tickets will be available for purchase on a first-come-first-serve basis on Wednesday, September 30th, from 1pm-2pm.
To collect a ticket, in addition to payment, you will need to show us your valid CMU Graduate Student ID card.
If you cannot attend either ticket pick-up, you may send someone else to collect them on your behalf, provided they have your CMU Graduate Student ID card or a picture of it.

21+ Nights at the Carnegie Science Center - Robots

Join us on Sept. 18 as we explore the binary world of robots – with Pittsburgh's famous robot HERB (Home Exploring Robot Butler)! Check out roboworld®, the world's largest permanent robotics exhibition, snap a selfie with C-3PO, and challenge a robot to a game of air hockey. Program a robot to make works of art or to navigate a maze. Brush up on your binary and make a coded bracelet to take home. Try your skills and grab as much candy in 55 seconds using a fully articulated claw machine built from an Arduino and basic 3D printer parts. Unlike the traditional arcade claw machines, this DIY version gives you full control over this claw in the X,Y,Z axis and the claw grip itself. Put your ears to the test, and see if you can tell the difference between music composed by humans and music composed by machines. Resonance Works artists will play a blind musical "taste test" to find out if you can hear the difference between the obviously inferior human-based melodic entertainment and the computer-made masterpieces of our beloved robotic overlords. Explore robotics with Team RobotiX, an organization connecting local professionals with K-12 students and teachers to provide robotics education.
