What’s so funny about this?  "Put Down" is one of the multi-faceted expressions with a slew of meanings, from lowering something, to insulting someone, to killing an animal, etc. In this case, the reader is reading such a good book that he's totally absorbed and is not able to set the book down and stop reading. However, the subject matter of the book is gravity, which is the natural force that keeps things from floating away, and in particular it's about anti-gravity, that is, how to escape the constant down pulling force of gravity. The book must be very powerful because it has lifted the reader off the floor and he can't return. And THAT's what's so funny!
