The cherry put ups are allllllll done. We have a liter of pre-cherry vinegar from the pits that will be delicious shrubs around September. 🥤 But the 8 pints of gorgeous perfectly captured cherries bottled today are in a light syrup with a drop of lemon juice and Amaretto. I cannot wait to do something truly hedonistic 😘and indulgent with them during the coming winter. Sweet Thangs, What a gorgeous week of preserving and puttin' up. The gorgeous Farmers and Garden peeps really blessed me with an epic bounty of Summer's best for my school chums. Miss Honey 🍒had 2 full days of making roasted flavor bases, cordial, veggie stocks, destringing, snapping, and smoking to stock our larder for WInter. These kiddos will be feasting on Tasmanian sunshine all Winter long. I plan to go hard with canning 🥫and preserving 🫙as much as I can before Autumn takes the nightshades, peppers, and berries away.🌈 It really was a triumph to get that mountain of magic sorted. I plan on really challenging palates with ancient Mexican🇲🇽 stews, Low country 🌞classics, and Vegan food, Dick Gregory himself would enjoy. I'm channeling 👑Miss Edna and 👑Miss Vertamae as I build this edible curriculum. 💚💚💚 I mean you have to dip your garlic bread, and corn bread into something juicy right? I hope to really show a different way to get through our chilly weeks together. An edible adventure that secretly makes them crave Agrarian excellence. Our Granny Smith tree has outdone herself this season. She gave us enough fruit to make 8 ltrs of slow roasted pure apple puree, 6 pints and 8 quarts of brown butter spiced pie filling. Neighbor Bruh Kyle blessed me with 7kilos of gorgeous figs. Half are already bubbling into a sticky & spiced @newnorfolkdistillery Rum Jam. Sweet pickled bull horn peppers in a sweet punchy brine. It seemed like everywhere I went in March there were gorgeous pops of beautifully grown veggies. It's one of the real blessings of living in Tasmania. My OG Pepper Poppa Nathan hooked me up with the juiciest, crispy-fresh bull horn peppers. I knew I had to make the most of their edible sunshiney voluptousness. These bad mamas are in a sweet brine. Y'all know I do plenty spicy, tangy, and sour. So why not a sweet one too? I thought they'd really brighten up this Winter's slow braised stews, smoked po boys, and vegan tumbles.
