since angst is my life I wrote a thing for two of my best friends, sai and reffie (/*o*)/ tenra belongs to reffie, sho and maya belong to sai, and kay and sora belong to me yessu!
Kay stared at the door with a level gaze, his blue eyes seemingly distant. It hadn't opened at all today, not even once. The bell hadn't jingled, Sora hadn't meowed, no one even called.
It scared him.
This continued the entire week; he couldn't figure out why. Despite the rumors that circled around the city people still came to visit him. There was someone, a man, that stopped by every single day. He stopped coming. There was a woman and her daughter that visited every other day; they too quit coming. Even Sho and Tenra, the people he loved the most, didn't stop by that week. Neither of them called either; it scared him so badly. But Kay had lost their phone numbers so what could he do?
The man waited and still nothing. By Thursday he was so stressed that he couldn't even think straight. His body was filled with worry; even Sora seemed agitated. He wished someone would stop by or even come for a visit.
Kay could barely sleep that night, curled up with the stuffed kitten his two lovers had bought him. His mind was a whirl of emotions and thoughts. He was still new to the whole dating thing so nearly every aspect made him nervous. How were you supposed to act? What was he supposed to do if something like this happened? Kay had so many questions. But luckily his mind settled down enough to allow him to sleep, even if it were patchy.
When he awoke, the air was thick and it was hard to breathe. Kay sat up with wide, frantic eyes. The room was filled with smoke and a flicker of orange shown through the black curtain. Kay coughed and felt his lungs burn in response. It smelled like ... fire! Sora, where was Sora! He stood up, swaying on his feet and drew the curtain open.
The entire front of his store was engulfed in flames; all of the records and CDs were puddles of plastic by then. Fire had taken the counter and his chair, steadily creeping along the floor towards him; there was no way to get to the front door. Kay couldn't see Sora anywhere either.
"Sora! Sora come here!" His voice cracked.
With no sight of the white kitten, Kay was forced to back into the room as the fire spread throughout his shop, sending his entire life up in flames. He hurried to the back door and pushed at the bar, attempting to get it to open. But it was rusty with disuse; it didn't even budge. His mind grew hazy as it become harder and harder to breathe. Kay leaned heavily on the door, wheezing as he tried to get some air. WIth his lack of intelligence the man had no idea what to do in a situation like this. His entire world went dark within moments; even his last thoughts were focused on Sho and Tenra.
Will they miss me ...?
I wonder what they'll think ...
I love you ...
~*~
The first time Kay awoke, he was alone in a hospital bed. The lack of Sho and Tenra startled him but he sank back into sleep before he could put much thought into it. All he remembered was how much it hurt knowing they weren't there.
~*~
Her hands were shaking as she gripped the phone. Pick up, Sho, please pick up!
Tenra's eyes were frantic; she was shaking where she stood. She wouldn't have even used the phone if she hadn't gotten her surgery a few weeks ago. But he woman didn't feel like she could be strong in front of Maya if she had gone in person. At the sound of a sleepy hello, she clutched it even tighter.
"S-sho!" That was all she could get out.
On the other end of the line, Sho was attempting to get Maya down from the counter. He leaned against it and smiled shyly; he still wasn't used to the phone calls. Sho lifted the glass of orange juice to his lips. However, at the tone of her voice, something felt incredibly wrong. "... Tenra, what's wrong?"
"T-there's been an accident! Kay was ...! He's ...!"
"Slow down, Tenra! What happened!" His eyes were wide.
She felt the tears roll down her cheeks. "K-kay's shop b-burned down!"
The cup in his hand slipped from his fingers. It shattered on the floor, immediately making Maya's laughter fall silent.
Sho's eyes were wide. He didn't want to ask, didn't want to know. "W-when? Where is he? Is he alright? T-tenra!"
"Two days ago! We didn't even know about it!" The woman was practically wailing at this point. "S-sho, neither of us went to check on him and this happened ...! It's all my fault!"
"Tenra, calm down. Is he alright?" HIs heart was beating quickly in his chest.
"He's in the hospital! T-they only want family to visit him but he doesn't have any ..." It felt wrong saying that. Tenra wasn't even supposed to know about what happened to Kay as a child. She didn't feel it was right for her to know as Kay didn't tell her himself.
It seemed in that moment the news decided to air the story to further torture them. Sho watched with wide eyes as the reporter spoke. Maya got excited.
"If you've been watching us the last two days, you've probably been with us every step of the way for the story of a heartbreaking fire. It is reported that Brightmore Records, a popular music store, has burned down due to arson. The police aren't sure who would target the shop and they are still looking for a suspect. The owner of Brightmore Records, Kay Brightmore himself, is still within the hospital in critical condition, suffering smoke inhalation and a few burns; doctors are unsure whether or not he will survive. It is reported that the store's mascot, Sora, was unable to escape the flames. Police are asking that you call silent observer if you have any information on this case."
Sho felt his heart drop. Sora ... didn't make it. Kay might not make it. Kay might not make it!
Maya pointed at the television with a wide smile. "Daddy look, it's Papa! Papa's on the TV!"
"W-we have to go to the hospital, Sho! Right now! We're the only family he has!"
The man nodded, feeling tears well in his eyes. "I'll meet you there," he whispered quietly.
"Are we going somewhere, Daddy?"
"We're gonna go visit Papa, alright?"
~*~
By the time he awoke, laying upon a bed that was not his own, Kay was struggling to remember what had happened. He was confused. The ceiling above him was not his own. The bed below him was not his own. These blankets and pillows were not familiar. There were bandages around one side of his face. A dull blue eye shifted around the room before Kay sat up. The action caused pain to spark through his chest. A hand pressed against him.
"Kay, you shouldn't be moving yet. Lay back down." It was Sho, his face filled with worry. The man slipped his hand into his own, squeezing it reassuringly.
"He has multiple burns on his arms as legs, as well as the right side of his face. He won't be able to speak for a while either. His lungs need to heal from the smoke." Someone, presumably his doctor, said quietly.
Kay went against the woman's words. "S- ... sora."
Sho's expression turned pained. "She ... didn't make it, Kay. I'm so sorry."
The tears, which only came from one of his eyes, were hot against his cheeks; Kay hadn't cried since he was little. It was new to him, this feeling of despair in his heart. Sora was gone. His closest friend was truly gone. Sho tried to hug him but Kay pushed him away with weak arms; he wanted nothing to do with other people in that moment.
~*~
Tenra, Sho, and Maya came to visit him everyday. Each time they showed up, Kay barely paid Tenra and Sho any attention.
Most days he frowned; sometimes, when Maya called him Papa and got him to laugh, he smiled. But they were brief smiles, and only Maya got to witness them.
He didn't speak anymore either. Even when the doctor gave him the alright to do so, Kay didn't utter a word. Other than Sora's name upon his awakening he was as silent as a statue. Even to Maya, who he paid the most attention to, not a single word was murmured.
Kay wouldn't let Tenra or Sho touch him. It was almost as if he were afraid. He became cold and distant. By the second week, when the doctor told him he could remove his bandages, the man adamently refused. He didn't take them off until Tenra and Sho left for the night. Kay fought against tears at the sight that greeted him; the right side of his face was burned enough to scar. It would be with him the rest of his life. What would his lovers think of him now? Would Maya still think of him as beautiful? He was flawed now; he was damaged.
With no where to go, no money to even buy food, he stayed in the hospital. His shop was his everything; it had taken so long to buy it. It wasn't much, probably something stupid and naive to anyone who wasn't close to him, but he loved Brightmore Records. Before Tenra and Sho, before even Sora, the little shop had been all he'd ever had. Now it was gone; and so would his ragged family when they seen his face.
He was crying when Tenra walked in the next day, curled against the hospital bed. She went to hug him so she could offer comfort but he suddenly seemed to breakdown, shouting at her.
"Don't touch me!"
"Kay--"
"Don't!"
It dissolved into quiet sobs. "I'm tainted, Tenra. I'm ugly and tainted ... Maya's going to be scared of me ... Sho's going to hate me!"
She was gentle as she hugged him; he cried quietly into her shoulder. "Even if your face is burned, Kay, Sho and I are always going to love you. Maya loves you. Sho loves you. I love you," she said soothingly, rubbing his back in gentle circles.
"I'm scared ..."
"You have every right to be. But we're here for you, Kay. We're not going anywhere."
The man shook within her arms. "You guys ... you guys didn't come to visit me at all that week. And now Sora's gone and my shop is gone and ... That was my entire life and now it's all gone. It was everything I had ..."
Tenra held him throughout the entire bout of words. Sho had walked in partway through; he now sat on the otherside of the bed to help in comforting him. They were just grateful Kay was paying attention to them for the first time in two weeks. "Kay, your entire life isn't gone. You still have your family; we're all here for you. No matter what happens, we'll always be your family."
Kay clung to both of them tightly, and for the first time since the fire, they saw his face; neither of them were disgusted by the burn there.
~*~
He moved in with Sho a week later. Tenra and Sho took him on a shopping spree, and although he adamently refused everything they picked out, they still bought it all for him. Neither of them told Kay where the money had come from; his safe had survived the fire. They wanted to take care of the damaged man for a bit. With money he could leave.
Kay settled into Sho's apartment nicely; it was like he had always been there. He made breakfast for both Sho and Maya in the morning, sent Sho off to work and Maya off to school, and then spent the day with Tenra whenever she got out of her classes. His body and mind slowly adapted to real life again but not without a price. At night he had nightmares. During the day he suffered through random bouts of depression over Sora's death. But he was getting better, slowly making progress, and that was what mattered.
Two weeks after he moved in, Maya went to stay with her grandparents, and Sho invited Tenra over for the weekend.
The two of them did all the work; they wouldn't let Kay strain himself. Tenra settled herself underneath the man and pulled him into her. At this point into their relationship, her shy nature had all but vanished. Kay tried to move but Sho held him immobile. The taller man pressed into Kay's body with a groan. As they comforted the damaged man with sex, they whispered how much they loved him into his ears, how much they needed him in their lives. Kay gave in to the people he loved without much protest.
~*~
It had been nearly two months since Kay had moved in with Sho. His nightmares had waned, he'd become much happier, and the four of them often went out together. Maya and Kay spent a few hours playing board games and colouring together. Sometimes he and Sho played video games. And whenever he was with Tenra, they would listen to music together. Things were steadily looking up.
So when Sho and Tenra blindfolded him and began to lead him somewhere, he was a bit confused.
"Where are we going?"
"You'll see, Kay! You just have to wait!"
"But--"
"It's a surprise, Kay. Just wait." Sho's voice quieted him. He walked along in silence.
Nearly ten minutes passed, before they came to a stop. Tenra removed the blindfold and giggled. Kay's eyes widened at the sight before him.
It was a big black building, the words 'Brightmore Records' written across in a neon blue sign. A banner hung below it, announcing a grand opening within the next few weeks. The windows were beautifully polished and the door handle was in the shape of an old record. Kay felt tears well in his eyes.
"We've been getting it ready for you the past two months. We were hoping you'd like it." Tenra smiled before she hugged him. Sho joined in a few moments later.
"To be clear though, you're still living with me, no arguing."
Kay clung to both of them as he cried. "T-thank you, thank you so much."
"We love you, Kay," Tenra murmured.
Sho ran his fingers through Kay's hair. "We'd do anything for you."
"I love you two so much." Kay couldn't think of a time where he'd been happier.

“I look up to you.” What? W-what is Alibaba talking about? “I wish I can be like you, you know. You’re so strong,” Lies! “So powerful, and very charming. I’m a little jealous, Hakuryuu.” The Kou prince stared at the blonde male, a little wide-eyed. Those were words that he wanted to shoot back at him. Alibaba smiled; his smile was brighter than the sun. “I abandoned my country, Hakuryuu. What could a guy like me possibly do?” Everything. Alibaba, you have it all wrong. I’m the weak one...I am… Hakuryuu opened his mouth but couldn’t get the words out. He couldn’t speak, not when Alibaba was looking at him with such kind eyes. His heart was beating a thousand miles an hour. There was no way he could speak now.
