Pyrogenesis W.I.P. (Pt. 3)
Picking up the package Jayy turned it over in front of them. The package was small and wrapped in brown shipping paper and bound with twine. The address label had his address, but no return address. They pulled the small boot knife they kept on them, cut the twine, and ripped the paper to reveal a small velvet jewelry box.
Tossing the paper and twine aside, Jayy opened it to find a small ruby ring nestled in the red velvet folds. Upon inspection, the ring had three gemstones: two small grey stones flanking a slightly larger red stone, that Jayy decided was a ruby. Flipping it up to inspect the gold band, Jayy found an inscription that read “Princeps autem piscium” in flowing calligraphy. As they held it, Jayy could feel a strong energy that seemed to pulse from within the ring.
Jayy resisted the strong urge to try it on. Carefully putting it back in the box, They went back to counting coin. Glancing at window on the door, they noticed a torch pass by. Jayy needed to finish soon or they’d get a nasty visit from a not-so-friendly guest.
About an hour later, after they made sure the door was locked and the candles snuffed out, Jayy made their way to the back half of the building. The shop was the front half of a residential building that Jayy had inherited from their adopted father. Kennith.
Kenny, as his friends called him, had taught Jayy everything he knew about growing plants and running the store. The back half was two stories, a living and kitchen space on the first floor, and a small bedroom and bathroom on the second. Jayy had loved Kennith. Even after he told them he wasn’t Jayy’s actual father. As far as Jayy was concerned, Kenny was better because he took the time to be a father. Jayy thought back on their dad while making some soup.
Kenny had been a swordsmith before his wife died from a sickness that had swept through the outer ring. He had become very depressed after her passing. He closed his forge and became secluded and depressed for a very long time. After what must have been years an old friend that Jayy had never met gave him a job at the flower shop and pulled him out of his seclusion.
Pyrogenesis? (Work In Progress)
“Hey, can I ask you about those scars?” a small voice piped
Jayy whipped their head around expecting to make eye contact with the person foolish enough to ask such a personal question to a stranger, but was met with the view of the busy street from his shop window.
Looking down, they met the curious gaze of a young child. Old enough to know what a scar was, but young enough to lack the critical thinking and common thought not to ask strangers personal things.
“Well, I got them many moons ago fighting a bear for this magic rock.” Jayy told the child, proceeding to lean one elbow on the counter and pointing to a point of not-so-magic clear quartz hanging from a suede cord around their neck.
“Wow Mister, that’s kinda stupid.” the child scoffed before running back to their mother who was admiring a large purple flower on a window shelf.
“Wow Mister, that’s kinda stupid.” they mocked in a quiet, nasally tone.
Jayy used to be insecure about their scars, refused to wear clothing that didn’t cover the back, didn’t go swimming, not even being intimate.
They tried to think back on how they got the scars in the first place, but could never remember. Only recently had Jayy become comfortable enough to wear a shirt without a back, such as today.
Jayy looked at the clock hanging above the front door, as they slid a sweatshirt over their head.
“Almost closing time. Do you need any help over there?” They asked the woman with the rude child.
“No, I’ll be out of your hair in a moment.” she said prying the child off of one of the empty display tables and dragging the screaming youngling out the door.
“Thank the gods.” Jayy sighed as sweet silence followed their departure.
Worldbuilding Wednesday - Fire
Today's subject is fire. Fire has a huge impact wherever it goes. It's often considered to be a catastrophe, yet some plants rely on it to successfully produce the next generation. What's the impact of fire in your world?

215 --- RTS Editor
In order to work on my university project for the semester, there needs to be a base to work off. I have decided to start with the Pyrogenesis engine. It was developed for the game, 0AD.
The main reason for picking this engine is because both the engine and the game is open-source (plus all the visual assets are creative commons). This provides a nice starting point for the endeavor, where a lot of the boilerplate work and visual assets are already there. This leaves my team members and I, to focus on what really matters, the concept, design, and mechanics of the game. The Pyrogenesis engine currently stores all of its modifications in text files. The documentation is not so expansive and each file can reference a different file in a different location. This can make it difficult to modify things as there may be five different files to create and edit just to create a new building in the game. In order to make this more efficient, I have programmed an editor for the engine, in order to make changes and additions much more user-friendly.
With the generic title ‘RTS editor’, the tool will hopefully be able to evolve into a more general tool to create RTS games. A tool that I have always dreamed of existing. I hope it will be useful for other creative people like me who love the classic RTS genre. It’s an interesting feeling to finally create something that I wrote in a book of ideas many years ago.
Pyrogenesis? Pt. 2 (W.I.P)
As the woman walked out, a small man with a large bag rushed in after her.
“Sorry, I’m closing up shop soon, so if you need something you can come back an hour after dawn tomorrow.” Jayy said, tying their long hair back in a ponytail.
“I’m sorry, but I’m just delivering a package for a mister Jayy Singer? I was told to get this to you by tonight or I’d lose my job, sir.” the courier huffed out as he set a small box wrapped in brown paper on the counter. Jayy winced at being called ‘sir and mister’.
“Alright, but I need to close up now or else I’ll get fined by the guards.” They followed the mailman to the front and held the door open for him as he left. Jayy locked the door after him and turned the open sign around and closed the curtain.
The guards were infamous for being cruel to the shop owners in this part of the city. They liked to over tax and abuse power, and the lot of them being former thugs, also liked to steal and loot on occasion. The “Powers of Government” didn’t usually bother with the “outer ring of poverty” unless it was beneficial to them. Like taxing people senseless or harassing the minorities. Owning a flower shop had its perks though, because no one wanted to steal flowers. What would you do with it after? Eat it? Sell it? Best case scenario was you got what it was worth. Jayy thought about it as they meandered back to the counter to finish counting coin before snuffing out the candles for the night.

Two knocks came from the wooden door and Elis froze in place. "'m coming in, Elis!" was called before the door slid open. The scene that met Jupiter's eyes was something he couldn't quite explain. His long time friend Elis was clinging to one end of a singed bath towel and tugging on the other end was a furry lizard. The room was covered in small located fires, burn marks, and singed items. The door clicked behind Jupiter and he just started laughing. Hearing Jupiter's laugh Elis immediately turned and glared at him. Under the angry gaze Jupiter's laugh puttered off. "...Sorry man. I mean the scene was just too precious." Another glare came from Elis. Jupiter sighed and dropped his bag on the scorched wood floor. "So lemme guess, you want everything fire proofed, don't'cha?" Elis nodded then gave a sharp tug, causing Pyrros to tumble forward. Another laugh dared escape Jupiter's lips, but he held it in. Rummaging through his bag, Jupiter pulled out a slim poster-back book and flipped through the pages until he found the spell he was looking for. "Okay. Before I fire proof anything let me do you a favor and fix all this shit." Jupiter began chanting. Glowing symbols began appearing everywhere. Broken and destroyed items would become brand new, or at least what they were before Pyrros had burned it up. Twenty minutes passed before Jupiter cleared his throat and ceased chanting. "Moving on," spoke Jupiter as he took a sip from his thermos then flipped to another page. This time once he began chanting no glowing symbols appeared, but everything began glowing red. This spell only took five minutes. Jupiter closed his book and repacked it with his thermos. "Well that does it. So you owe me...hm...let's see...500 Crystals." Jupiter adjusted his bag's straps and said, "I'll be expecting the payment in two days time. Anyway, see ya around." and with that Jupiter left.
I should write more of these extras so I can get a hang of the charas...or I should write period bc shit I suck
