Ash likes a good with adventure, he's not good with horror, particularly exorcism and gore horror(general body horror). He hears bone snapping in a scene, you can expect his to make a speed walk out of the room. {that and I would imagine he would fine some horror somewhat distasteful if a its a Ghost type mon acting as the main antagonist}

Red likes movies with practical effects, expect him to geek out about how they were done and how it was like behind the set(like he could go on for hours post credits about which staff pokemon did what effect use such and such move). Because of Pokemon help with the effects, movies with CGI are not as common, but that just mean it's usage is more obvious and Red has a big distaste for it calling it lazy and lacking impact.

Serena despite being the romantic type from the Region of Romance™️, one of her favorite pass times when there's nothing to do and she doesn't have to get up early, is to watch a trash Hallmark romance movie just to laugh at how weird and ridiculous the atypical genre main couple are.

Elaine is a BIG geek for a good spy flick, in fact her biggest hyper fixation is a spy series that happen to star May and Drew as the main characters of this series(and like previous headcanon post she has written tons of fanfics about the characters).

Chase tend to prefer comedy or tragedy sometimes just a good comedic tragedy. He love a good laugh, but he loves going on about character motivations and how they play out into their out comes. That said the humor is just straight up terrible or drowns out any serious moments he taps out.

While Chase and Elaine have their own personal taste, a secondary favorite type of genre they share is sci-fi particularly ones centered around space and time travel.
