Another big event this year, also the one I was looking forward to the most, the 2017 Qatar Motor Show!
In the DECC, behind the City Center Mall, with over 20 car brands showcasing the latest technology and innovation, it was one of the best events I’ve ever been to.
The show location was divided into two section; one for classic and old cars, including luxury ones, and another section for the latest modern cars. However, I was surprised for I didn’t see some brands I expected to.
The most interesting branch was NBK Mercedes Benz Qatar's branch, which was the biggest. They launched a competition and the conditioins were like the following:
1. You get scanned by a 3D scanner which lasts for 30 seconds. 2. NBK Mercedes Benz send you an SMS/Email including the link to the 3D image of you. 3. You share the link/photo on Facebook or Instagram, tagging NBK Mercedes Benz and get a chance to win the 3D model.
Another interesting thing I came across at NBK Mercedes Benz branch was the mini race track, where you can race another person in mini cars put in the track controlling them with you “brain”. The exhibitors set a sensor device on each of the racers’ heads. The device collects the electrical alterations that result from brain activity and uses them to move the car at an according speed. So the racer has to focus on moving the car in order to produce electrical alterations in his brain (which are related/ responsible to move the car) which are transferred to signals that actually move the car. Once you get distracted or focus less, or even think about something else, the car stops. And this is how people win/lose.
The same concept was used in another activity, where instead of mini cars, a small ball in a wind tube was used. And the more you focus, the higher the ball goes. You blink, it falls.
Apart of NBK Mercedes Benz, the BMW Qatar's branch was also staggering with its new 2018 ///M3 and the new V12 7 Series. Not to mention the i8 & its wings, which was at a totally other level.
The exhibition was accompanied with an online Q&A challenges, and winners received awards from the organizers such as branded products and much more. Moreover, there was a fan zone outside the hall, where athletes from Xtork Magazine performed stunts besides other amateurs.
