I am sitting here crying because I am just so grateful for Got7. I just want to wrap each member in a hug and express to them how thankful I am to them for being good quality humans that inspire me to be better.
Hip Hop
As a DJ of ten plus years, I've had to play a lot of different music. The one that I've come to dislike the most, is Hip Hop. Don't get me wrong, I'll listen to some Hip Hop. But it has to be about something. Artists like Biggie and Tupac get the rep of being artists that rapped from the soul. Their music had a message. Sure, it had it's promotional components of "I'm the greatest ever," but that wasn't the entire song. A lot of today's Hip Hop is nothing but "look at my cars, and money." A lot of it degrades women as well. The majority of it is so filthy it makes me uncomfortable to play at some shows. Yet, the radio stations continue to play the shit out of it. I don't understand that. There are some aspiring artists out there that are rapping with a message. I applaud you all. Rap your hearts out about your struggles, or about the state of the world, or whatever. Don't tell me how awesome you are. There are millions of people on this Earth that think they are awesome. Do something positive with your music. Create something I can bob my head to, hear your message, and follow along, and think "wow, that amazing." I'll gladly support you.
You’re not in control
It's not something that easily came to me. I don't want to say that I've been through a lot in my life, because there is always someone out there that has gone through more, and worse, but I've experienced some shitty things nonetheless. I had a short fuse to start with. All those experiences taught me how to grow that fuse. Not because I wanted to. Half the time, I wanted to snap. I just learned no matter what I did, no matter how hard I tried to change the outcome, things were going to happen as they were designed to. Call it God, call it the Universe, whatever. Something else is in control. I just stopped trying to be in control. Take this post for example. When I started, this was about being patient. Now, it's about giving up control. I'm not saying that you can just sit back, and coast through life on auto-pilot. That won't work. What I'm saying is, try things a certain way. If that way doesn't work, don't be afraid to call an audible. Sometimes, your audibles are the way it was supposed to be in the first place.
Don’t hide.
I'm a big fan of Trance music. It's one of the only genre's of music left that actually uses real instrument sounds. True, it is still considered EDM, and the instruments are computer generated, but in today's world, what ISN'T computer generated? It's still a beautiful genre nonetheless. That's not the point of this blog. The problem is this. Everytime I listen to Trance, I drift off thoughts of being on stage again. I was never on stage to play Trance. I always spun hip hop/pop. It's fine, but it never did anything for me creatively. I drift off to what it would be like to feel that rush of being on stage, and actually playing something that I enjoy. The problem is how to make that happen again. In order to get to the level I want to be at, I have to create my own stuff. I've never been able to keep my patients in check long enough to learn how to do that. I usually get frustrated, and run from it. By that I mean, stop listening to Trance all together, and take it out of the equation. That's not good. You shouldn't be afraid of something that makes you happy. You should use that fear, harness it, and transform it into drive. That's what I'm trying to do. Haven't succeeded so far, but I'm still working on it. I'm going to go listen to Trance now.
“When it rains, it pours.”
That's the old phrase isn't it? It seems like when one bad thing happens, another seems to follow, then another. You can't seem to catch a break. This is how I felt Tuesday. I left work on Monday, and the low tire pressure light was on. I decided to wait it out, and see what happened Tuesday. Tuesday morning, I discover the tire was flat. I should have taken care of the tire earlier in the morning and prepared for it. But instead, I procrastinated. So I attempt to take out my spare to get the flat fixed, and I can't get to my spare, because my back hatch refused to open. I call family for a ride, and finally start the repair process. The tire shop tells me that the hole is in a spot that cannot be repaired, and it'll require a whole new tire. To my displeasure, I agree. With the tire fixed, I head home to shower, and salvage the remainder of the day. As I'm getting ready to leave work, I trip on our dog gate, and fall flat on my back in the kitchen. With the only injury being my pride, I laid there for a while, chuckling to myself, and staring at the ceiling, fully aware of what was happening to me. I was compounding negatives. It started Monday night with the low tire pressure light, and continued up to the moment of that fall. I laid there for a while, resetting my mind. "If you don't relax, it will just continue," I told myself. So I relaxed. I took a few deep breaths, smiled, and left for work. I switched up my outward flow of energy to positive. The rest of Tuesday, and Wednesday went on without an issue. If you receive a strike of bad luck, just smile and accept it. Otherwise, it'll pour on you.
