Wild Violet Lemonade
So beautiful, so delicious, and so simple. I made this violet lemonade using wild violets I picked in my backyard! They're all over here in Michigan.
Here's what you'll need
1.5 cups of violets*
1 cup of sugar
1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (4-5 large lemons)
10 cups water
Here's how you'll make it
1. Boil 2 cups of water and pour it into a jar with all of your violets. Be sure to pick the stems off! Let this steep overnight.
2. Next, dissolve a cup of sugar into 2 cups of water simmering on the stove. Simmah down! Once this is done, let this chill overnight.
3. After your violet tea has steeped overnight, strain the violets out and mix your sugar water (simple syrup) in with the tea.
4. Next, mix in the lemon juice and watch the mixture turn from a deep blue/teal to purple/pink!
5. Mix in 6 cups of cold water and then chill as needed.
6. Mix it with your spirit of choice & enjoy. This is tasty AF, send me your cocktail experiments!
*Oh, by the way… make sure you’re thinking about where you source your violets & rinse them out before making your tea. Who knows what chemicals are being sprayed in your local parks or your neighbor’s yard.
