Quartz Dust is a unique form of material that was originally found in Illyria. While it does not harness any known elements like regular dust does, Quartz Dust has the innate ability to amplify and super conduct the power of dust, thus making it a valuable resource. 

Back in the early days of Illyria after the end of the Great War, Illyrian miners discovered the crystal while excavating for dust resources on the northernmost edge of the island. The material at first seem to be more than a piece of pretty, valuable rock, but it was the discovery of its relation to dust that propelled it to heights beyond compare.

It was an Atlesian scientist who moved to Illyria following the great war named Adrian Silverback who discovered its superconductive abilities while conducting research. At first, Silverback was stuck on what exactly to do with the material and left it lying by a set of dust crystals. When Adrian returned, he found that the quartz dust began to glow a similar colour to the fire dust crystal next to it. When Adrian went to hold the crystal, it burned his hand.

Now armed with the knowledge of Quartz Dust’s capabilities, Adrian went back to Atlas and helped form the Silverback Research Foundation, a joint union between Atlas and Illyria. With funding from both of the governments, the SRF went to Illyria to mine and experiment with Quartz Dust.

Along side its superconducting abilities, Quartz Dust was extremely durable and the SRF sought to test its capabilities. It crafted four weapons and handed them down to a team of young huntsmen in training to use. These weapons were Papillon, a longsword. Red Death, a rapier. Minos, a battle axe and Blutgang, a sword breaking dagger.

However, the most prominent drawback to Quartz Dust began to emerge: it was an extremely rare material. Once the mines in Illyria were completely depleted of their resources, the SRF attempted to expand their research outside of the island, but soon came up short. Eventually, the Atlesian government pulled its funding from the project and the SRF disbanded.

Despite the depressing ending to what could’ve developed Illyria into a technological giant, the history is still kept as a story to tell aspiring scientists that learning from mistakes and never giving up can lead to success. The four hunters kept their weapons with permission from Adrian Silverback, but only two remain: Papillon and Red Death. These two weapons, once marvels of the power of Remnant’s nature, now act as relics for a what could’ve been for Illyria.
