"Queen Calanthe"
Drawn for a special edition commissioned by the AST publishing house.
Scammer Desmond Miles in the Witcherverse. Idk if he is pretending to be druid adjacent, would hate Skellige with the talk of the gods and how thay reminds him of the Isu, but that would be a convenient cover. The whole "spirits talk to me and show me things" to explain how he found the cursed object in a house not belonging to the culprit, but still points towards the caster with names of their victims.
Desmond who can casually cancel out magical spells with some concentration and a wave of his hand when he wants to be dramatic. Who also got himself silver weapons and can take down most monsters in one hit. Who also happens to talk monsters out of attacking and on one occasion even negotiated between a village and a troll. This is what brings him to Eist's attention who is courting a queen known to despise mages. He tries to recruit the mysterious druid and after getting the ok from Calanthe, he tries seducing the rogue druid for them.
Desmond trying to runaway because Isu bullshit was enough he doesn't want to know what court bullshit will be like since he already has an idea. But that damn couple is relentless and also kinda hot. Maybe he could humor them for one night.
A Question of Price popped into my mailbox today. Art by Matteo Bellisario. Simply for the visuals, it is probably my second favourite comic adaptation after A Grain of Truth.
And it's a Pavetta show.
They play with the green of her bloodline's eyes plenty and I can never say no to glowing eyes. Also, seeing the fury on Pavetta is truly awesome and delightful. I can only imagine her once she starts seeing through her husband's plans later on - hysteria my ass.
No spinning, floating table. Plenty of reaction-pics, though!
Like mother like daughter. Memeable.
As expected, they compressed the tale & tucked it-nipped it here and there. No Draig Bon-Dhu and his bagpipes; Drogodar and his lute represent! Having Calanthe utter 'Do not be cute!' instead of 'Stop being so clever.' I can easily live with. It was a shame though, to lose the antics of the gathered would-be-grooms. I guess Coodcoodak really gets all of the spotlight in this regard.
Crach puts me in stitches and personally I had never given thought to Eist appearing as he does here, but Emhyr is classically handsome even as a hedgehog.
Post-curse Emhyr is giving strong young-Cahir vibes.
Geralt is at his most refined, effeminate intellectual yet. 'He's an elf!' Doubtless 'the touch of someone else's coarse, unpleasant clothes against his swollen skin' contributes, though his verbal dance with Calanthe is unfortunately cut down to size. I like it, though.
More of the Witcher character portrayals featured in Alain T. Puysségur’s Le Sorceleur Codex. In order: Pavetta, Calanthe, Nenneke and Visenna.

NOBODY FUCKING TOUCH ME
I AM ACTIVELY LOSING MY FUCKING MIND

Wonderful Calanthe commissioned by the wonderful @bookcalanthedaily >;3
Will never get over Eist and Calanthe on the battlefield in episode one. Fighting side-by-side, a true battle couple. You know they never strayed far from each other, covered each others backs, shielded the other. Then Eist dies. Eist dies, and everything goes muted, and Calanthe just stares and then she gasps as if she was the one who got hit, and then she just falls to her knees beside his body in the middle of a battlefield. Touches him, as if waiting for him to wake-up, to open his eyes, to be alive. And then she roars, in pain, in heartbreak, in anger, and she's shoving aside her own men just to get at the lone archer on the hilltop, the one who took the only man she's ever truly loved, and you know she doesn't care if she's injured because all that matters is avenging Eist, of ripping the archer limb from limb.
