frozen 2 thoughts (spoilers ahead!):

elsa is very pretty.

elsa is very not straight (let my bi ass project my bisexuality onto her pls.)

the art design and animator team REALLY outdid themselves.

the songs are amazing and i nearly cried during the third act, when elsa sang show yourself and anna sang the next right thing. where was this level of artistry for the broadway show?

the plot is..... Hm. i feel like it suffers from the same problem as the broadway show does—that of the creatives wanting a deeper, darker story but being unable to fully execute it because it is, at the end of the day, a film with the disney brand. what we end up with is something with a lot of potential that’s undercut by them having to keep things safe and laden with comic-relief. the tone then feels incongruous in some places.

there were a lot of threads we should have been allowed to linger and breathe in. elsa’s role and inner conflict as queen, honeymaren’s dynamic with elsa, anna’s anger and grief at elsa’s stubbornness, what the people of arendelle think of their history and their current monarchs, etc. ultimately, these things aren’t all that important to what they were trying to convey, but would have given a much stronger story impact.

i cannot, for the life of me, fathom why kristoff’s character design and reindeer are the ONLY acknowledgements STILL of him being inspired by the saami people, as the northuldra were. one little verbal nod, disney? like when he was bonding with ryder? no?

i kind of want to write a fic adapted from both films and the lore and canon divergence i’d written on my rp blog now. i want to see what would happen if i did that, let arendelle’s architecture perish, kept elsa as queen, and let anna be upset with elsa for more than 5 minutes.

if i don’t get a doll with elsa’s finale outfit........ i will probably combust. SHE’S PRETTY OKAY DON’T @ ME

my insomniac ass last night: don’t elsa and anna have their coronation ceremonies in a cathedral with some lutheran minister?? wouldn’t that and the existence of elsa’s powers (and magic and spirits in general) create some kind of faith crises for the people of arendelle?? especially for the sisters?? ESPECIALLY for elsa?? like, sorry, god as you know him Does Not Exist but there's magic and spirits and places in the world like the enchanted forest lalala

a friend and i had a roleplay going for my elsa and her slightly murdery oc, where her oc had magical fire powers and a tragic story about sisterhood, too, and ventured to meet elsa in arendelle. it was Spicie and had wlw vibes from the get go, and honestly, i wonder what it would been like if disney attempted something like that instead of what we got in frozen 2.
