Meg photos from “All Hail” live in Helsinki, Finland, September 19. Most of my photos are a little blurry, but you can see her expressions. Or should I say, megspressions. (I probably shouldn’t but I can’t resist.) Part 1/2. I’ll just use the most clear ones on this one and put the blurrier ones in the next post. 

One of my favorite things about the live shows is Meg’s standup bit at the beginning. Most people only know her as the voice of the credits and Proverb Lady. But when she takes that stage, she’s charming and hilarious and everyone falls in love with her. 

For those who haven’t seen live shows, Meg’s speech in the beginning is basically just going over the rules (photos OK, no flash, no video etc.), and introducing the show, but she makes it into this super funny standup bit. I wish they included it in the recordings sometime. She also plays Deb and does the credits like on the show, with a proverb in the end. 

Under the cut: some jokes and notes about the Deb scene. I’m a bit bummed that I didn’t get to see her Deb faces at all, because there was a script stand that covered her face for my side of the room. But I got to see her Deb-ing in the first Finland show and the Stockholm show. You can’t have everything, I guess. 

The Finland show didn’t have a lot of guest stars, so we got a slightly longer Meg bit, and I enjoyed it very much. She told us not to use flash, because actors can’t deal with it. “We’re very vain and very easily distracted.”

She mentioned twice that she’s not our real Dad, which was hilarious. At one point, she was going to do a trust fall into the front row, but then she didn’t, “because I’m very delicate”. Just as well, because it wasn’t my side of the front row. 

She told us not to use (I think selfie sticks), “not because it’s forbidden, but because it isn’t 2014.” Big whoop and laugh. “Trust a podcast audience to be nostalgic about 2014.” Of course, that was when WTNV last visited Finland.  “Our president was not a global embarrassment. It’s not my fault, but I do apologize.” This was a big hit, obviously. No one in Finland likes Trump. 

The Deb bit was SO FUNNY. In addition to Deb, we got to hear her sister Caitlin for the first time. Because of the amount of haze in the room, Caitlin had to sort of go in and out of Cecil’s body, which made them do the Hailvale dance! It wasn’t so much a robot dance like it looks in some photos, but more a wave that goes up and down. Cecil looked a bit uncomfortable with such a haze movement, but kept doing it anyway. My photos of it all failed, Meg-wise, but you can see Cecil well.

Caitlin informed us that all the siblings think “Dyeb is a bit off”, which was hilarious but also kind of sad if you think about it.  There was a list of names and I wish I remembered it, because I like to memorize and list WTNV character names. But I have to listen to the recording when it comes out. Meg said in an interview that Caitlin has a different accent than Deb, but to be honest, I couldn’t tell the accents apart. It’s probably more obvious to an American listener. Either way, it was a hilarious bit. 

Near the end of the show, Cecil was confused about the content of his show. He thought he had talked about a variety of topics, but playing back the show, it was all “All hail the Glow Cloud”. Cecil was like, “Wait a minute, I had guests. Deb was here, can you play that?” But that was also: “I agree Cyecil, all hyail the glow cloud... That cloud is a genuine (pisser).” I laughed at that as much as the actual Deb bit. Even Deb, with her disdain for humanity, has to hail the Glow Cloud.
