If it is a fairly standard practice for kings to either kill or banish their brothers as a way to remove conflict and competition in their court, Queen Yoo's actions make more sense to me. Either subconsciously or consciously she knew one of her sons would live and the rest would die, so she made a choice and emotionally distanced herself from So. (Perhaps she felt the youngest one wasn't a threat?) It's just a theory, but what a quandary queens must have been in as mothers, how do you emotionally survive and protect yourself when you know what's coming?
