#queer suffering

Watching straight romance feels like a fantasy come true. Like wdym they can be in love and and touchy feely in real life, front of others and be perceived as the romantic pairing they are rather than a couple of good old pals, ahoy! Or be ascribed with no judgment and adoration, happiness for their happiness? I wish that was real

“we’ll always have fanfiction” 

This is true, but I’m tired of us only ever “having fanfiction” because canon fucked us over. 

Straight people get as many romances - comedy, tragedy, action, action-adventure, horror, fantasy, science fiction, sitcom, cartoon - as they want. They get dozens upon dozens of HEAs. 

Queer people get practically none. And then a show comes along and promises, well, this time! This time, you might actually get to see people like you happy. Trust us. We’ll tell you a good story. 

And then the queer character dies. The queer characters suffer with no catharsis or payoff. The queer character is killed off to further other characters’ arcs. 

And we try to cheer ourselves up by saying “well, we’ll always have fanfiction!” while Hollywood keeps telling stories where we suffer and die.
