QUEER-ROMANTIC, or QR
Queerromantic is similar but not the same as an already existing term Queerplatonic
Queerromantic, or Queer Romantic/Queer-romantic is a romantic relationship or romantic attraction that queers traditional norms on what is platonic and romantic or strays from the idea of only being one or the other
Queerromantic relationships can be sexual but it is not an inherent part of what it is because romance and sexuality are two different concepts
A queerromantic relationship can very greatly from person to person and there is not a “right” or “wrong” way to it, but examples of a queerromantic relationship can include:
• being both friends and romantic partners simultaneously or fluctuating between the two
• being in a romantic relationship that you feel in some way ‘queers’ traditional norms around platonic and romantic relationships
• one or both partners being cupioromantic and choosing to date/have a romantic relationship despite not experiencing romantic attraction
What seperates this term from Queerplatonic is the nature of the relationship(s) and how the people involved view their relationship
This term was made with aromantic/aro-spec people in mind but anyone can use this if they feel it applies to attraction they expirence
The flag is a recolored version of the queer platonic flag where the pink is replaced with a almost-red color that’s slightly lighter than red but doesn’t hit pink-pink territory either to represent the romantic nature of QRRs (Queer-romantic relationships) but also representing how Queerromantic relationships queer away from traditional romantic relationship norms
You can call queerromantic partners simply just “parnters”, “boyfriends”, “girlfriends”, “enbyfriends”, etc. but you can also use terms like:
boy/girl/enbyfriend-friend, or BFND, GFND, EFND
QRP, or just Queerromanric partnter
Queerous-lover/Queerous-partner
There is no credit needed for anything here as long as you dont claim you created anything in this post yourself
Note: Some aromantic people can date despite not being romantically attracted to the person, and some aro people do expirence a little bit of attraction even if not to the same capacity as alloromantic (non-aromantic) folk
Edit: It has been brought to my attention that the earliest usage of the term is https://forum.emptyclosets.com/index.php?threads/queerplatonic-vs-queerromantic.387827/ on January 9th, 2015 by user Omnisexual
The term was also brought on tumblr 5 years later before by @doxi-term-coining on September 30th 2020
I should also note that this term should not be confused with the romantic orientation Queeromantic as it is an unrelated word and concept with an almost similar name
