An alien design. The species is called the Sclios, and this particular Sclios is named Areth Kutram.

Areth is currently trying to start a new life as a journalist, which is tricky when her knack for white collar crime refuses to take a back seat.

Areth Kutram uses she/her pronouns but is referred to as a husband, man, father, etc.

Some sketches of Imuenan physiology

Imuenana have 'nikriil' which are often described as horns. Nikriil are structures that allow them to hear (they do not have ears), though they cannot hear high-pitched sounds and they tend to communicate near (or sometimes even at) sub-sonic pitches.

The thagomizer-like structure is flexible (it has an 'up' and 'down' position). In its 'up' position, it can rattle as a 'don't fuck with me' signal. In its 'down' position, it is used to thump things.
