HIGHlights:  Belfry over 600 years old, 85m high and over 340 steps to the top [Note: Steps are very,very narrow and quite small..very rewarding view from the top though]

There are more than a few canals here and they make for some very, very pretty pictures...

Basilica of the Holy Blood... holds a vial of the Blood of Christ... very, very moving...

Waffles-Belgian-style: delicious when hot and very very rich... chocolate lovers only need apply.

Fun Fact: Quick is fast food burger chain similar to McDonald's and was founded here in Belgium.

LOWlights: The smell! This town is very, very old and it shows with the sewer system. Everywhere you go there is an odd smell creeping out from somewhere.... bring your handkerchiefs... You have been warned... Brugge: Definitely a very interesting place! ...and one that should be on your list of places to visit... After Zeebrugge of course ;) ;)

Day 6 Just a quick update today, as I'm in a bit of a rush to get to my bus to Amsterdam. My plans for the day were to get some money out to pay for hostel rooms (2 euro surcharge be damned), print out some boarding passes and, being that there wasn't and indeed hasn't been a proper scrap of food in this entire flat for the duration of my stay, go out to get some proper food. I had not taken into account how difficult this would be on a Sunday. I don't know if Belgians are particularly religious folks or just lazy, but there is nothing open on a Sunday. Like, at all. I walked for 45 minutes and saw nothing except for sad Belgians. Not only were all the banks closed (to be expected), but for some reason all the ATM machines are located inside these closed banks. Want some money on a Sunday, Belgian? Fuck you. All the printing shops and internet cafes were closed. So if you need to print that essay in a hurry, fuck you Belgian student. All of.the food shops were closed, apart from the Belgian equivalent to burger king, quick burger. Quick burger was nice enough. I got a little tub of mayonnaise for my chips, which I had assumed was complimentary, but later found out had cost me €1. I opened my burger box and discovered that my bacon supreme or whatever.it was called was in a lovely wholegrain bap, with all seeds and things on it. The novelty of having a burger in a nice bun made me forget all about the fact that I had spent 1/5 the cost of the burger about 5 grams of sour egg paste. Still, it's hard to regret going there when it was actually the.only.place open. Want to eat out on a Sunday, Belgian? Fuck you. Go to quick burger. Not entirely sure my hostel has free WiFi, so for anyone concerned, if I don't update in the next couple of days, I'm probably not dead, I'm just living in some backwards hellhole.

I will say Quick Burger had decent salads when I was in Paris recently. The link has a serious eats "face off" between the two brands.
