To be Wed (Part 1/2)
Pairing: Harry Potter x Reader
Warnings: none
Summary: Your father (Sirius black) had always been overprotective of you. Having lost his best friends James and Lily along with your mother, he was determined to keep you safe for along as he lived. But when you turn 18, he decides to tell you the truth. A truth that would change your life: James Potter and Sirius Black had made a pact to have their children wed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
You loved school holidays. From spending time with your father to having your best friends Harry, Hermione and Ron over, your holidays were always filled with great fun. That is why whenever the time came to head back to school, it was a bittersweet goodbye. You lug your trunk down the stairs, catching a glimpse of your father rummaging through a couple of drawers in the living room.
“Looking for the train ticket?” you say breathlessly. He sees you struggling with your trunk and hurries over to take it out of your hands. “Thanks dad.”
As he places your trunk next to the main door, he pauses to think. “I know I placed it in one of those drawers I simply cannot remember where.”
“Try the second drawer from the right.” you say, checking your hair in the mirror by the door. You had black hair just like your dad’s but yours was straight. A trait you inherited from your mother.
“Got it!” You hear him say, slipping it into his pocket before joining you by the door.
“Y/n, honey, before we go I need you to know something.”
“Yep what Is it?” you say, still running your hands through your long hair to smooth out a few flyaway strands.
“Come sit.” He says, plopping down on the sofa. He only ever did this whenever it was something serious. Like the time you and Harry were 6, and he had come over for the summer. The two of you ran off to buy snacks from a store and Sirius came home to an empty house. That night. you and Harry got a strict lecture right on this sofa.
When you finally sit down next to your father, you look warily at him wondering if you were in trouble.
“Relax honey this isn’t a lecture.” he laughs seeing how tense you are.
“Oh thank goodness.”
“Sweetie, James, Lilly and your Mom were the most important people in my life before you came along. And um... you know Harry don't you?”
You raise an eyebrow at his ridiculous question. You and Harry had practically grown up together. Though Harry had to live with his awful relatives initially, he would come over for a few weeks during holidays. Furthermore, the both of you were in Gryffindor which meant you, Hermione, Harry and Ron were inseparable.
“I um... ever since I lost your mom I vowed to protect you no matter what.” As your dad says this, a wave of sadness washes over you. It was never easy talking about your mom.
“I guess I'll just come right out and say it... James and I made a pact that you and Harry will be wed.”
You jaw dropped. You couldn't believe it. “Wed?” Your voice was a mere squeak. “ As in...”
Sirius nods. “To be married.”
You jump up from the sofa taking a step back. Confusion, anger and even a little bit of fear washed over you completely clouding your senses. “IM ONLY EIGHTEEN!”
“I know honey. I don't mean some time in the future. Calm down for a minute. You know Harry. You love Harry! Its not a bad thing to be married to him.”
“I do love him. BUT NOT LIKE THAT! Oh my goodness I'm going to be sick.” You plop back down on the sofa feeling lightheaded and slightly nauseous.
“We want the best for your children. Lily and James knew they could rest peacefully if Harry was with you honey.”
“And what about me? Where does that leave me? Do I sacrifice my future and happiness for this? I know it sounds selfish but-”
“I wouldn't have agreed to it if it wasn't good for you y/n.” Your dad says, looking completely serious. “You know that.”
You stare back at him in disbelief.
“Even if you don't see it yet y/n, this is a good thing.”
The next half an hour was spent asking questions and getting answers. By the end of it you found yourself just as confused and startled as you were when you first found out. Even after leaving the house to head for Kings Cross Station, your father continues to reassure you that everything will turn out fine. But you found it difficult believe him.
When you reach the station, Sirius walks you in. You always met up with Harry, Hermione and Ron at the gate before heading onto platform 9 3/4 together. It appears that the three of them weren't here yet.
“I just have one last question for you dad.” you say, looking up at him. “Why are you telling me this now?” He smiles down at you, and you notice a few more creases at the outer corners of his eyes. The toil and struggles of his younger years showing on his face. “I just thought that since you're nearing the end of your schooling years in Hogwarts, you could spend them getting to know Harry as a...”
“A boyfriend?” it felt uncomfortable to say it out loud. You'd never seen him as more than a friend. How could you? He was your best friend.
Sirius puts an arm around you, pulling you in for a hug. “Are you going to be okay?”
“I guess...”
He pulls away, squeezing your cheeks between his hands. “My precious, perfect daughter.” His eyes dart behind you before he releases his grip. “Harry’s here.”
A familiar cheery voice speaks from behind you. “Hey y/n. Hi Sirius.”
Your turn around to face him, forcing a smile on your face. You see that he has a trolley cart with his trunk and hedwig’s empty cage on top of it. You assumed hedwig’s gone off flying.
“Harry! Take care of my daughter will you?” Sirius says, patting him firmly on the shoulder. You rolled your eyes. It was something he said to Harry every year at Kings Cross Station. And now, it had a new meaning.
Harry laughs, lifting your trunk to place it on his trolley along with his stuff before looking over at you. “You know I will.”
He leans in and gives you a hug which you return awkwardly. It was almost as if you forgot how to behave around him. “Hey, I missed you.”
You tuck a lock of hair behind your ear. “Me too. Hows Dudley doing? Is he still afraid of you since last year’s incident?”
He crosses his arms. “Well he still looks like a blueberry so umm good I guess?” You couldn't help but laugh at this.
Just then you hear Hermione’s voice. “Hey! Guys!” You turn to see her running towards you, with Ron, Fred, George, Ginny and Mrs Weasley right behind her. She had spent the last week of holidays at The Burrow. She’d been doing that ever since she and Ron had become a couple.
Hermione crashes into you in a big hug. “Oh it's so good to see you!”
“I have so much to tell you Hermione” You squeeze her before releasing. By this time the Weasleys have finally caught up and everyone exchanges greetings.
When you and Ron come face to face, the two of you size each other up. “Weasley.” you say sternly.
“Black.” He replies with the same energy.
“Oh stop it you two.” Ginny laughs, before giving you a hug.
You then turn to the twins. “Fred. Hideous as always.” This makes George howl with laughter. “You have the same face George.” You say, and now it was Fred’s turn to laugh.
“Want to see our new invention?” Fred says, eyes gleaming mischievously with a fiery passion.
“Fred! You will stay out of trouble this year young man.” Mrs Weasley scolds.
“We’ll show it to you on the train. You’re going to love it.” George whispers gleefully.
“Alright it’s almost time kids.” Mrs Weasley says. “Five more minutes before the Hogwarts Express leaves.”
While everyone says goodbye, you turn to your dad. “Stay safe alright? You’re going to be just fine.” he says, laying a kiss on your head. “I love you kiddo.”
“Love you too dad. I’ll send you owls.” You give him one last squeeze before he hands you the ticket for and all of you head onto Platform 9 3/4 one by one.
Once you’re past the barrier, Harry loads yours and his trunks onto the Hogwarts Express while Ron takes care of Hermione’s and his belongings. Fred and George are off to the side messing around as usual while you pull Hermione further away from the boys. “I need to tell you something.”
“What is it?” She asks, pulling her Hogwarts robe tighter around her body as a gust of wind gushes by. The train captain rings the bell and shouts “FOUR MORE MINUTES!”
“My father just told me that he made a promise to James and Lily.”
“As in James and Lily Potter? Harry’s parents?”
You nod fervently. “They promised each other that their kids would get married.”
Hermione freezes. “Oh my... but thats...” She looks up at you, eyes wide and jaw dropped. “Oh my Merlin you’re going to marry Harry! Oh thats fantastic y/n!” She begins jumping up and down in excitement.
"No! It's not a good thing. Also, Harry doesn't have a clue!” you pull her arms down to calm her. “Harry’s my friend! I can't marry him.” More and more schooling kids of all ages start to crowd around the Hogwarts express, squeezing to load their things onto the train.
Hermione has to raise her voice a little to be heard over the noise. “Look y/n. You and Harry have something special. He cares about you more than anyone in the world. Don't you notice how he treats you differently?”
“Thats just because our parents are friends. My dad takes care of him like nobody else does. Of course he's going to be a little closer to me. But what we have isn't romantic!”
The train captain yells again. “THREE MORE MINUTES!” People start boarding the Hogwarts express.
“Believe it or not y/n,” Hermione says as she wraps one arm around your shoulder, “I always knew you and Harry would be together one day.”
You see Harry make his way over to you and Hermione. “What’re you two gossiping about?”
"You.” Hermione says, making your eyes widen.
Harry gives you a weird look as though looking to you for answers but you simply shrug. “I have no idea what she's talking about.” You say.
“Well come on, Ron’s already got us a cabin.” He leads you and Hermione through the thick crowd and onto the Hogwarts Express. After passing a few doors, the three of you reach a compartment with the doors open. Ron sits by the window, clawing through his bag for what you assume must be his ticket.
“Here you git.” Hermione pulls out two tickets from her pocket before sliding into the seat next to him.
You and Harry sit across from the happy couple, with you opposite Ron and Harry opposite Hermione. Him being next to you caused your entire being to tense up. Why is it so difficult to behave normally around him? After all you’ve grown up with Harry and you knew nothing you say can ever push him away.
You direct your attention to the breathtaking scenery outside while Ron and Hermione begin to squabble about a topic you deemed unimportant. Since the Hogwarts Express had started moving, you hadn't said a word to Harry.
“You alright?” He says from beside you. You could feel his eyes on you and it only caused more reason for discomfort.
“Im good.” you say quickly.
Harry hesitates a moment before speaking again. “Its just... you’re avoiding me. Did I do something wrong?”
“No not at all! Its not like that...” You say. “I just... I'll tell you another time.” You say, finally turning to face him. You see his green eyes filled with worry. His eyes always gave it away. You reach over and pat his arm reassuringly. “I promise.”
The rest of the train ride the four of you played card games and scoffed down sandwiches Mrs Weasley had prepared. All this, while enjoying the picturesque scenery outside. When it got to the last hour of the ride, Hermione and Ron were sleeping soundly with Hermione’s head on Ron’s shoulder.
Harry probes once again. “Whats bothering you?”
“My um... my dad told me something right before we left this morning.”
“Yeah? Was it bad news?” He asks, brows furrowed.
You weren't sure it was good news but right here, looking into his deep green eyes, you knew for a fact that it wasn't bad news. Being slightly shorter than him, you had to lift your head to look at him. He could tell you were struggling with something big. He just didn't know what it was.
“I... don't think its considered bad news but I'm not entirely pleased with it either.” You say. He wraps an arm around your shoulder, lightly patting you rhythmically. An action that never ceased to calm you down. You recall the time you nearly drowned in the lake back at Hogwarts because you couldn't swim. When Harry and Ron had pulled you out, you were crying and hyperventilating. That was until Harry soothed you with this very action.
“Do you want to tell me what it is y/n?”
“Not really... not yet at least.” you say. The soothing rhythm on your shoulder pulled you into a sleepy state. In Harry’s arms, you let your worries and fears melt away, and too enough you joined Ron and Hermione in sleep city.
When you’re woken up with light strokes through your hair, you hear Harry’s deep voice. “We’re here y/n. Come on.”
Like every other school year, Hagrid takes the first years across the black lake while the rest of the Hogwarts students ride in carts back to the castle. It's cold now that the sun is nearly completely set and the dark clouds above threaten a thunderstorm. You watch as everyone pulls their Hogwarts robes tight while trudging up the steps to the castle. Flooding into the castle with your best friends by your side, everyone moves swiftly into the Great Hall for the dinner feast.
While the first years get sorted into houses, you find yourself seated at the Gryffindor table next to Hermione but opposite Harry. Rubbing sleep from your eyes, you look up, only to meet eyes with Harry. Almost as though caught red-handed, he quickly looks away, peering over to the front of the hall were the first years are slowly called to the stage one by one.
“If you keep this up y/n, he’s going to know somethings off.” Hermione whispers into your ear.
“Well... technically he already knows somethings bothering me.” You whisper back, checking to see if his attention was still on the first years. “A marriage is a love match and this is... it's far from it.”
Hermione shakes her head disapprovingly. “if you look close enough, you'll realise this is exactly what it is.”
You laugh, pushing her away. “Rubbish.”
The four of you eat lavishly, discussing the new school year.
“Guys, do you know what this means? Ron says through a mouthful of mashed potatoes. “We have to put up with Snape on a daily basis again.”
Harry swallows a mouthful of pumpkin juice before answering him. “Ah yes. Your favourite teacher.”
Ron immediately chokes on his food and begins coughing violently, making everyone laugh. “I could've died you git!” he exclaims, glaring at Harry.
“But you didn't.” you say, suppressing a fit of laughter.
“Oh the two of you think you're so smart.” He starts to mimic you childishly. “Oh look at me I'm such a bully and I love to wreck havoc on my dear friend’s lives! Oh wait thank goodness I have my friend Harry who protects me like a useless git!”
Between fits of laughter you wipe tears from the corner of your eyes. “That is a horrible impersonation of me.”
After a heavy dinner, you make your way back to the Gryffindor common room with your best friends. the conversation you had with Hermione still playing over and over in your mind. You’d be lying if you said you've never had feelings for Harry. There were time where you felt something different and each time you simply dismissed them. There was no way he’d ever fall for you anyway. Not when he's the best quidditch player on the team. Not when all these girls have taken a sudden interest in him ever since he participated in the trial-wizard tournament. Not when his green eyes look at you like you're the only person in the-- you're knocked out of your daydream when a strong force shoves past from behind you. This causes you to stumble to your left, landing straight in Harry’s arms. Gripping your shoulders firmly, he makes sure you're alright before turning to whoever had shoved you.
Draco. It was always the Slytherins.
His voice low and threatening, Harry says through gritted teeth. “Apologise to her.”
The air thickens and students begin gathering round to catch a glimpse of the action.
But the silver-haired boy simply saunters over to you arrogantly. “Why isn’t it Harry and his pathetic little friends.”
Hermione lunges forward, only to be pulled back by Ron.
Draco sees this and laughs. The most sickening sound you've ever heard. “We pure-bloods don't apologise to mud-bloods.”
“Alright thats it!” Harry draws his wand, fists clenched and ready for duel. You quickly step in front of him, holding your hands up. “Stop it Harry. You’ll get in trouble.”
“Yeah Potter. Listen to your little minion here.”
“ENOUGH!” A deafening and nasally voice booms throughout the corridor. You didn't need to turn your head to know who it was.
Snape. With his greasy black hair and long cape, it was hard not to miss him. Upon his arrival, students begin to dissipate, afraid to get caught up in this mess. But Harry and Draco stay deadly still, eyes fixed on one another in a death glare.
“Someone tell me what exactly is happening here.” Snape demand, looking between the two boys.
“It was Draco Professor Snape.” Hermione begins to explain, only to be cut off rudely. Snape’s beady eyes stare Hermione down with utter resentment. “Be silent Miss Granger. I wish to hear from Mr Malfoy.”
This didn't come as a surprise. It was typical for Snape to side with Slytherins and jump at any chance to torment Gryffindors. Especially Harry.
“I was minding my own business Professor Snape, when y/n over there shoved me intentionally. And now, Potter’s trying to pick a fight.” Draco answers, a smug smile played across his lips. You yearned to slap it off his pale face.
“Causing a scene on the first day Potter? How very disappointing.” Snape’s nasally voice cut through the stale corridor air like ice. “As for you Miss y/l/n, I reckon your mother was never around to teach you a little manners?”
Your blood boiled. You've heard countless stories of the woman she was. Kind, brave, and she loved fearlessly. She had found your dad at a time where he was struggling and pulled him out of a dark place. She gave him purpose. You only hoped to find a love as rich as their’s.
You knew better than to challenge Snape. He'd make the rest of your school year a living hell.
“Apologize to Mr Malfoy.” Snape demanded. “Now.”
“I’m sorry.” You say reluctantly, glaring off to the side to avoid the smug smirk on this face.
“Very well. Now off to bed all of you, and don’t let me catch you wandering around the castle again”
The four of you trudge off to the Gryffindor common room in silence. You couldn't stop thinking about your mother. You missed her. Every girl needs her mother. A wave of sadness washed over you. This wasn't something you could ever get over. You could only learn to live with it. You couldn't imagine how Harry must feel having lose both his parents.
Back in the common room, everyone had gone off to bed leaving you alone in the common room. You curl up on the couch in front of the fireplace, letting your emotions stew.
“I thought you'd still be up.” A familiar voice says from behind you.
Turning around, you let yourself feel a little comfort upon seeing his face. “Hey Harry.” He always had a way of making you feel safe.
He plops down on the sofa next to you, peering at you with concern “Is this about your mom?”
You nod, laying your head on his shoulder, staring into the fireplace. “I don’t understand how you do it Harry. Your parents... doesn't it bother you?”
“It does. There are times when wake up in the middle of the night screaming...”
You look up at him, your face only inches away from his. The warm glow from the fireplace reflect off his features, making him look like an angel.
“I’m sorry...” you say, taking his hand in yours. “Its not fair you've had to put up with so much since birth.”
He turns his head to look down at you, and suddenly you're feeling conscious of how close the two of you are. “Its not all bad.” he says, maintaining eye contact.
Your heart raced.
“Theres always Ron and Hermione...” with his free hand he pushes away a lock of hair that had fallen over the side of your face. “And there's you.”
You're completely lost in is green eyes. It almost felt as though you were lifting off the ground. You couldn't help yourself.
When you see his eyes travel down to your lips, you relaxed into him. it was like your body was moving on its own. Slowly he leaned forward, and your lips touched in a soft, kiss. Every nerve in your body felt like it was on fire. One sweet kiss was all it took. You like a whole new person.
When he pulled away, the both of you were left staring at each other looking slightly conflicted yet completely and helplessly in love.
Running his hands through his hair, Harry struggled to find the words to say. “I uh... I'm sorry I shouldn't have done that.”
Your heart sank. “You really think so?”
“Of course not! But if it makes you uncomfortable, I'll happily shut down my feelings for you. I just don't want to lose you y/n.”
“You...you have feelings for me?”
Harry looks down at the ground nervously. “I... I do. Who wouldn't? You’re smart, funny, kind, brave, everyone adores you y/n.”
You didn't know what to say. You desperately wanted to kiss him again. To tell him you loved him. But you couldn't find the words.
Suddenly he stands up, pulling you off the sofa with him. “Lets just get some sleep. It's late, you’re tired, we can wake up tomorrow and pretend it never happened.” He gave you an awkward pat on the shoulder, before turning to head back up to the boy’s dorms.
He moved so quickly, he'd already reached the foot of the stairs leading up to the dorms when you stop him.
“Harry wait!” You finally manage to say.
He turns around, looking at you a little puzzled and confused. You weren't sure what to do at first. But you decide to let yourself go. For once you stopped thinking about the consequences and simply let your heart lead your body. With one foot in front of the other you find yourself running over to the boy who has cared for you all your life, smashing your lips onto his.
Your hands were holding his face and you kissed him with all the years of tension pouring into this moment. Caught off guard, Harry stumbled back a little in surprise but soon kissed you back with the same level of intensity, arms snaking around your waist to hold you flush against him.
Though there wasn't an inch of space between your bodies, you felt a strong need to be closer to him.
Your hands moved to run through his hair, as the two of you moved backwards until you were against a wall.
Finally the two of you pull back, panting for air. His arms still holding you firmly against him. your foreheads touch, as butterflies continue to explode In your stomach.
“I love you Harry.” You say between breaths.
He pulls you into the warmest hug you've ever experienced. “You have no idea how much I've dreamt of this moment.” He plants a kiss on your head. “I love you more y/n. More than you could ever imagine.”

"Harry was speeding towards the ground when the crowd saw him clap his hand to his mouth as though he was about to be sick - he hit the pitch on all fours - coughed - and something gold fell into his hand.
'I've got the Snitch!' he shouted, waving it above his head, and the game ended in complete confusion."

((OOC: Take a look at this Bulgarian Bonbon. This is my version of Viktor Krum. He’s kind of a mix of the movie and the book, in that I view him to be more athletically built (movie), but he’s got that strong hooked nose and those amazing eyebrows (book). There’s also this weird thing where people assume that if you have a hooked nose you’re unattractive and look like Snape an old hag, but NO. HOOKED NOSES ARE HOT DANG. The one where he’s all bloodied up is actually based on the description from the Quidditch World Cup! He had two black eyes, broke his nose, and blood was all over his face and in his hair due to the speed at which he was going. Pretty frickin sick. What a cool dood.))
