💌 To the Friend I Never Got to Say Goodbye To
Dear you,
We were supposed to last forever.
Not in the fairytale way. Not with matching tattoos or vows in ink. But in the way you just know someone will always be there.
We made friendship bracelets out of silence. Spoke a language of glances and hallway laughter. Shared secrets in sleepovers and sneakers, in doodled notebooks and walk-home confessions.
And then— we didn’t.
There wasn’t a fight. No slammed doors. No final betrayal.
Just… quieter replies. Delayed responses. A missed birthday. A shrug at plans that used to make us giddy.
I don’t even know when I lost you. Just that I looked up one day and you weren’t where I left you in my life.
I still reach for you sometimes. In funny memes. In songs we used to scream in the car. In moments when I think, She would get this.
But you’re not there. And I never got to say goodbye.
So let this be it. Let this be the goodbye I never knew how to write.
I miss the girl I was when we were close. I miss your weird advice. I miss your loyalty in the smallest, strangest things.
And I forgive us—both of us— for letting go without ever holding a funeral for what we had.
Because maybe some friendships don’t break. They just soften, like a photo left in the sun.
And though we faded, we were real.
We were true. And you mattered.
Love always, Me
