Fading Without Farewell
There are moments when you let your guard down and start believing again. The chats flow easily, the tone is sweet, and for awhile it feels like maybe something real is quietly growing. You smile at your phone more than you should, replaying little things in your head.
Then reality slips in through the cracks — small glimpses that don’t match the picture you were building. Endearments meant for someone else. Posts that make your chest tighten. You gather the courage to ask, gently, without pressure. You even show what you saw. And the response is… nothing. No confirmation. No denial. Just silence that says more than words ever could.
So you do what’s necessary for your own heart. You start creating distance, slowly, softly. Not with loud goodbyes or dramatic exits — just fewer messages, shorter replies, letting the conversations naturally fade. It’s not anger, it’s not revenge. It’s simply choosing your peace over confusion.
You remind yourself that hope is beautiful, but clarity is kinder. Some connections feel warm in the moment but were never meant to deepen. And sometimes the strongest thing you can do is step back without explanation, keep walking forward, and let time do the rest of the healing.
It still stings a little, but every quiet day gets easier. One step at a time. One breath at a time.
