Who would throw the other in the pool: Tbh I see Ines having a jolly good time hanging out with Qun’mi at the pool, completely unsuspecting when all of a sudden Qun’mi frickin’ throws this girl off her feet and launches her into the water.Who is the better carer when the other is sick: Ines is suuuuper attentive when it comes to Qun’mi so she pretty much always knows what to do in regards to her health.Who would force the other to do extreme sports with them: They’re not very into extreme sports, but Ines will sometimes drag Qun’mi to a haunted house or something of that nature...and then get scared.Who would cook the better romantic dinner: After a few disasters, they’d just go to a nice restaurant or order delivery/microwave something.Who would build the blanket fort in the living room: Ines. No doubt.Who would have the best holiday ideas: It’s a collaborative effort. Ines is more festive but Qun’mi comes up with as many ideas as she does.Who would need to clean out the other’s stuff to make room for their own: It’s just a giant mess. They’ve both got junk everywhere from their nerdy hobbies and it takes a lot of time, effort, and tears to make everything spick and span.

• when or if I started shipping it: When I read the manga, I saw Ines and I was like “...dat’s gay.” And then I got the novel and I fell hardcore for these two. Like. I cried.• my thoughts: THEY DESERVED BETTER. AAAAAHHH. ;;;;AAAA;;;; WHY THIS.• What makes me happy about them: I can ignore canon and imagine that they’re making bad jokes with each other and cuddling with their pet Coeurl.• What makes me sad about them: Everything that happened in canon. Qun’mi’s fake smile turned into a frown. “Hey, come on now. Ines, pull yourself together.” Her subordinate continued to sniffle and tremble as if she’d said nothing. “I said, quit crying and act like a soldier!” “I’m not a damn soldier!” Ines snapped back. She stared at Qun’mi with blurry vision, the tears steadily flowing from her eyes. “Not right now…” She inhaled and lowered her head. “I can’t…” Qun’mi’s grip on Ines’ shoulder tightened. “You can. I never doubted that. So don’t you dare, not even for a second. Do you hear me?” “Do you hear you?” Ines argued, looking back up. “Are you seriously just going to go to your death without batting an eye?! I don’t understand. It doesn’t make any sense. It’s not fair!”

Qun’mi sighed. “You really are a kid. All is fair in love and war, right?” She gently removed Ines’ glasses and began to wipe at her tears. “Those runts came out of nowhere and beat me. I have to make up for my mistake. And other things…” She placed Ines’ glasses back on her face and stared a moment. Ines’ lip was quivering, her face was red, and she was blinking rapidly. “Sheesh, you’re making it really hard to not get all mopey. When all this is over, you won’t even remember me.” “I’ll never forget you,” Ines sobbed. “And those damned red demons…I’ll kill them all!” She made her declaration breathlessly. “Every last one!”

Qun’mi closed her eyes and smiled once again. “Well, it’s not like I can stop you. Just don’t do anything reckless, Captain Belfarre.” She turned around and began to walk. When she opened her eyes, a tear fell from each. Long after Qun’mi’s footsteps faded, Ines’ cries could be heard.

It’s Ines’ headcanon birthday, so imma just ... ramble a bit ;u;

Like, maybe she would totally forget it even is her birthday, because she lost her sense of time. Maybe Faith comes up to her and is like "hey happy birthday to you" and she just "my what - oh." And then she sits down and realizes she's a year older now, how much happened the last months. How much she has grown - and Qun'mi's words echo in her mind, how she is such a child. She wonders what Qun'mi would think of her, maybe, and maybe get even approval of her actions? But Ines shakes her head, because she knows Qun'mi would be all "you're such a child, going after me like that" She can imagine how Qun'mi pats on her shoulder again like she did back then, see the scowl she knows from her. She can imagine it, she wants to see that again, she would give everything for it. But she already tried everything she could. She's broken and alone in the cold land of Milites with no hope of seeing her again - because of the fate of that one l'Cie that stole her heart. All that remains are the eternal memories from her thanks to the endless l'Cie curse that is the reason they crossed path and lost each other again. But maybe, just maybe, the curse will be broken after the skies turned red and the sea black, and gods redeem the terrible fate of these two lost souls, to bring them the happiness they strove for.

Qun’mi/Captain Ines - A morning in their happy world Hello just something really small for @comeonlight‘s birthday! :D Happy birthday you trash and I hope you have a wonderful day! Happy Ending AU, you know the one. AO3

A tapping against the glass, water dripped down from the window down to the ledge, gathering there in small puddles. A soothing sound, rhythmic and calming, that built up the lazy atmosphere in this early morning. The sun hid behind the gray, thick clouds, its warm rays not being able to pour fresh new energy in the life it was supposed to touch. Sleepiness lingered in all over city, people refused to go out at this weather, even the wildlife stayed hidden in dry places, and rather enjoyed these sleepy hours in the morning in their cozy homes. 

It wasn't much different for the pair that just spent their second night in their new home in this new city, away from the past they left behind in their old, destroyed home. Concordia welcomed them with open arms, gave them shelter to recover from the memories they got from the past year. Here they were now, lying side by side next to each other, enjoying the warmth they shared so many times. A gentle breath tickled on the skin, moving the blond hair in a breeze that was impossible to miss. A smile formed on the other person's face when she noticed a tiny stir coming from her, watching her intensely as she slowly rose from the deep slumber she was in. “Qun'mi.” Ines whispered when Qun'mi opened her eyes half way, closing them with a sigh again after they briefly locked eyes. But Ines just continued to look at her, tracing her hand she had on her back along her sides, up and down, over and over. A comfortable embrace happened with the blanket they shared, warm and cuddly, that neither of them couldn't let go. Ines whispered her name again, this time receiving a sleepy noise from her and a smile formed on her face, tucking her head closer to escape Ines' gaze. But she couldn't; Ines rolled closer and nudged her with her nose, drawing her head up again with gentle touches. And Qun'mi complied this time, moving with Ines and even opened her eyes once they were at the same height. “Good morning.” Her voice washed over her like a soothing breeze, calming her to her bones as if the weather hadn't already done that – the sleepiness continued to linger and Qun'mi only tucked her head closer to Ines, letting her eyes falling close again. No need to get up already, no stress that kept her on her toes – only the feeling of the warmth of her girlfriend in her arms was enough to keep her at one place, the place she called home. Briefly she pressed her lips against Ines' exposed collarbone before she sunk back again, ready to continue wandering in a world of dreams. And Ines would watch over her like a hawk, never letting her go ever again. Not after all they went through. It wouldn't happen in this peaceful world, they made sure of that.

Here’s a short thing I guess.

With her head pounding, throbbing in pain, Ines brings a hand to her face and wipes at her damp cheek. Her breath is shaky, and she wants to scream, but she has no idea why. “Am I having another episode?” she wonders aloud in her office. She dwells not long on the matter, and looks down at whatever she’d been in the middle of writing when the tears had begun to flow.

Qun'mi Tru'e. The name is written in black ink, over and over again, in Ines’ own handwriting. “Qun'mi...Tru'e?” Something stings, not physically, but an undeniably unpleasant feeling gnaws at her. “Qun'mi Tru'e...Qun'mi. Qun'mi. Qun'mi.” It rolls right off her tongue, as easy as her own name. She could swear she's never seen this name before, but the truth quickly becomes undeniable. She's forgotten something.

A knock on her door pulls a minimal amount of her attention from Qun'mi Tru'e. “Come in.” A soldier in uniform enters and salutes. “Report: Magitek development is proceeding as scheduled. Also, we've received a request for backup in one of the newly captured territories. The citizens are causing a minor disturbance. Before proceeding, we-” “Clearance granted.” Ines dismisses the soldier with those words, and he nods. “Yes, Captain.”

Captain. Ines sure as hell wasn't Captain the day before. She knows that much. The soldier closes the door behind him, and she reaches for a nearby filing cabinet. She can only guess the contents. Blueprints, reports probably. Maybe, by some miracle, a hint that would ease her aching need to know exactly who this “Qun'mi Tru'e” is...or was.

Ines scans over the tabs of files. Some of the names are scratched out. Some she simply doesn't recognize. Has she forgotten them too, or has she simply never met them? A couple of names are familiar: Bashtar. There’s no way she could forget the Brigadier General as long as he lives. Icelar. Arguably the most famous colonel in the Empire. Everyone knows him, or knows of him. He has a great relationship with his men. Ines ran into him a few times in the past. He gave off a better vibe than Qator ever did.

Another name rings a bell. Morse. It's written in messy handwriting, and the file contains a few old, smudged notes that she doesn't bother to go through. She skims through a few more files: Balmung, Brionac, Dáinsleif, Vajra. “L'Cie Qun'mi” appears multiple times, as well as a few blurry images of a masked figure operating and testing different Magitek Armors. Ines opens one last file: Ultima.

Poking out from the neat papers is a handwritten letter. With a sense of urgency, Ines grasps it and quickly but gently removes it. Her hands are trembling and she starts to choke up. She feels as if she's going to be sick but she forces herself to read anyway.

Dear Ines,

Part of me hopes you'll never find this, but another part of me knows you will. I don't have much time so I'll cut right to it. You used to work under me. Alongside me in some cases. Those times were fun. Or, as close to fun as you can get when you're a military scientist in times of war. You're smart, Ines. You're talented - maybe even more talented than me. That's why I chose you to succeed me as Captain. There's a lot of other things I want to say about you, but I don't want to screw with your emotions any more than I already am. Just forget me, okay? That's what's best, I promise. Forget me, and move forward.

Qun'mi

Ines swallows a lump in her throat. There are still so many unanswered questions. Her heart burns in her chest, the tears come again, and she does all she can not to wail out loud. She needs to move forward, she needs to leave behind the name “Qun'mi Tru'e.” She can't. Even with no memories her emotions swirl like a storm and she's being steadily torn apart. Then, a voice of salvation calls upon her.

“Captain, there's been a malfunction with model 344. The generator overheated and now the...Captain?” Ines places her hand on the smoking machine, not so much as looking in the direction of the researcher reporting to her. Her eyes glow for a brief moment and the machine powers on. “Let's get this show on the road.”

I will forever be angry that we didn’t get context to that artwork of her.

First of all, what the heck happened that a l’Cie who is supposed to be an emotionless shell starts crying. Sure, Qun’mi is a recent l’Cie and hasn’t lost her human emotions, but still. This is Qun’mi who sacrificed herself without twitching an eye, who coldly accepted the mission of bombing Lorica while knowing that she won’t come back from it. Seeing her without her helmet gives me life. It shows she’s in fact a human being.  I’m reminded of the Novel where Qun’mi and Ines briefly say goodbye to each other before Qun’mi heads off to Lorica. Ines knows about Qun’mi’s secret mission and starts crying in front of her, Qun’mi pats on her shoulder and comments on how young Ines still is and that she should “act like a soldier”, leaving her then sobbing and breaking down in the hallway. Now with that picture I have to imagine that this whole scene went slightly different, with Qun’mi regretting all of her decisions, either while Ines is in sight or not. Maybe seeing Ines like that recalled the emotions in her. Maybe even memories, who knows. ... Just the idea that Qun’mi cried at their parting does things to me.
