"Ace Maker" landing at Quonset Point, RI
The Port of Davisville at Quonset Point is the fifth largest port for automobile shipping in North America. The port brings in over 30 million dollars in revenue per year and is one of the state’s major employers.
The flying city....
A unique, and revealing, perspective on a massive United States Air Force C-17A Globemaster rolling along the taxiway recently at the Quonset Point Air National Guard Station in Rhode Island.
The C-17 has been a workhorse and national asset to the United States (and several other allied nations) for over 20 years now. The aircraft can carry nearly 100 tons (100,000 kg) of cargo and personnel over 2,000 miles (3,200 km)....at 3/4 the speed of sound....at altitudes as high as 45,000 feet (13,700 meters).
A Royal Air Force (UK) C-17
The aircraft has been instrumental in providing emergency supplies and humanitarian assistance to disaster zones the world over....in addition to its critical military missions.
This aircraft can literally bring a broken city back to life.
