Apparently this is the “SIA” everyone is talking about, that made the racist comments via her recent activities earlier today. While we weren’t actually able to obtain the screenshots (evidence) of her making racist comments, do to the fact that she deactivated her account, a series of ra’s did make her comments pretty clear. She was saying the N-word and our source says she was immediately called out for it. Which led to conflicting arguments while some said those angered and offended by her choice of words had no reason to be because they were only “assuming her race”. It is possible for a black guy/girl to use an icon of someone of a different race but in doing this it makes it difficult for other people to know that you actually are black and not just saying so to get away with the use of that word.
What do I think? I think that The N-word is a disgusting and offensive word and there’s no excuse for using it, especially if you’re not black. Truth be told that word was put back into hip hop so that it could be given a new meaning and be reclaimed in the African American community after centuries of oppression. Therefore it is acceptable when black people use the word because they couldn’t possibly oppress themselves or be using racist slurs against themselves. But when someone of another race (i.e. asian, hispanic, white, mexican, latino, ect.) uses the word they might think that they’re just singing along to a song or appreciating “urban” culture but they are actually reclaiming a word that was once so impactful/harmful to generations of African American people.
While we here at TBQ do not know SIA personally or enough to know her race I still find the use of that word despicable regardless of race.
