ReBoot: The Guardian Code Debuts Activities for The Hour of Code

The partnership between ReBoot: The Guardian Code, AlphaBEST Education, and Green Mouse Academy launched last week to celebrate The Hour of Code with nearly 25,000 students around the world participating in activities during Computer Science Education Week. Mainframe Studios premiered two coding activities as part of The Guardian Club for young programmers to get their feet wet with the help of their favorite characters from ReBoot.

“The Hour of Code is just a first step in this collaboration and we’re looking forward to more joint efforts around harnessing the show to inspire kids to learn to code”, said ReBoot creator and Mainframe Studios president Michael Hefferon. “Our goal is to enable kids to unlock opportunities that would affect positive change in their young lives and future careers.” 

The online activity walks students through a simplified drag and drop programming language called Scratch as they write and animate their own story in the ReBoot universe based on the pilot episode. For younger students looking for a softer introduction to coding, a pen and paper activity sheet encourages the same linear thinking skills.

“The partnership with Mainframe Studios has made this even more fun for us,” said Green Mouse founder Shane Vander Kooi in the official announcement, “as we were able to pull in some of the visual content, key storyline messages and characters associated with the Netflix Original Series ReBoot: The Guardian Code. Harnessing entertaining themes to encourage learning through discovery has always been what Green Mouse Academy is all about. Michael Hefferon and the team at Mainframe Studios understand and embrace ‘Edutainment’ as a valuable vehicle to deliver important messages and ignite curiosity in kids.”
