31 Days of Horror, #2: R's Film Pick - A Horrible Way to Die
A very disjointed plot that follows a recovering alcoholic and her terminally bad taste in men. Her serial killer ex has just escaped from prison and the bodies are piling up. The story jumps back and forth so often it's difficult to keep track of who is who. It's also difficult to care since you learn very little about any of the characters. Interesting story idea overall, but poorly executed.

Wingard's “A Horrible Way to Die” is a film about a killer, Garrick, trying to find his ex girlfriend after he escapes from prison. This premise worked for me, but as the film went on, I had a hard time rooting for any particular character. It's shot in a sort of dreamy, up close, hand held sort of way, and while this provided an interesting tone to the film, it started to become distracting. The film has a number of flashbacks that are interlaced, and at times, it was hard to immediately discern if I was watching one or not. All in all, I think this was a solid first effort from the filmmakers and I'm looking forward to seeing “You're Next” and “V/H/S”.
