Princess Margaret photographed by her husband Lord Snowdon in September 1967.
Princess Margaret in portraits by her husband, The Earl of Snowdon, in 1959 and 1967 + Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret in The Crown.
The first portrait was taken for the Princess’s 29th birthday in August 1959, shortly before the pair were privately engaged in December that year. Their engagement, not publicly announced until 26 February 1960, came after a low-profile courtship since meeting at a dinner party held by the Princess’s lady-in-waiting on 20 February 1958. The second portrait was taken in September 1967 after seven years of marriage and two children, ahead of the Princess’s trip to Brussels that month.
The photograph of Vanessa Kirby as Margaret, taken by Antony (played by Matthew Goode), was likely inspired by both portraits and used as an official birthday portrait in the show, shortly after the two met.
