lenny huerta: i’m pained thinking about this, the first time she saw lenny she was still terrified of everyone and everything and this was also the first person she really saw and knew close to her age, so u gotta imagine emme’s still present guilt that when she first saw lenny she wanted to run away/thought she was part of every other of her mom’s stories, so when she wants to think of meeting her, it’s when lenny was already helping her out of that shell

rafa morceli: i full support the trend of emme seeing people in visions before she meets them, imagine her having a violent one beforehand, so her first real impression of them is that moment before she sees their face, just their voice in the vision, and first real meeting, she wants to get to know them, is polite, before all pauses hearing them speak and she thinks she’s still in the vision - them being in her head starts then

There’s a darkness here, one that you wear on the skin, one you breathe. Wear your shadows as the back of a jacket, wear it in your lungs. Wear it as a suit, no need to wonder how well it fits – how the two of them together walk through the tunnels, light as only steams when they can reach them, light as something rare. They’re here for Raafe, for them, but not think there won’t be blood too, don’t think he’s not walking like graves were made for him; hands as coffin-makers, not one to lie in them. It’s rotten here, but they’ve been in fresher places, it doesn’t change how he walks.

“This place is yours, shouldn’t you tell me where you’ve decided to go?” He slows, waiting for Rafa to notice, a gloved hand grazing over a skull, fingers just above the browbone, before sliding into one of the eyes, wondering silently, barely a thought at all, but felt, if he could break it. A quirked eyebrow and something cool within him, something that you’d think he’d be walking across ballrooms, crowds parting for the both of them, something regal, if we’re here to call them divine in Paris. (If we’re here to remember the grounds above are places killed, grounds above full of red, grounds above of things uncounted for. Why would he count?) Something waiting, something knowing, something almost always amused by Rafa’s nature, the curve of their lip. He’s here to witness before anything else.

“I’m not here to ask you to dinner, or dance.” Though the first is arguable in context.

As also related to the event 6 thread we have going on, these two do often go out to dinner at least once in the new cities the circus travels to, something outside of the more nefarious nights they spend out on the town too, and it’s surprising very mundane - or simply mundane for the pair. Dressing in suits and going the most expensive restaurant they can find - it’s more than Malachi at least ever went out when he was still living in Paris. The only place they haven’t gone out to dinner was when the circus was near New Orleans, maybe even before Malachi could even guess about their family history, but Rafa didn’t mention anything about going out so neither did Mal, and he wouldn’t have caught that anything was wrong until it was necessary for them to go out, when they needed to feed, and that night he caught the story of their family, just by looking at them - something recognized.

lenny huerta: i think really his first reaction would be confusion and acceptance in that confusion, of just where she came from, and being thankful to her for being so kind to his son, and someone a child could think is safe, so that is what he keeps in his mind, that elias thought she was safe their first meeting, and he still remembers and thinks of her as he did then as someone seeming very herself, even if close to sickly and without a voice then

rafa morceli: can we make their first meeting just as fucking chaotic as possible, begin them already as ‘been there, done that’ people in everyone else’s mind, give me the cliche at least once of kissing to hide from people chasing or watching or something close to this, but it’s rafa @ mal, so first reaction is just surprise and he can be impressed at their chaos, already beginning through him cleaning up their messes so they both don’t go down teh gutter

There's something familiar about this, just it's appearance, Malachi sitting across from them, suit and tie across his chest, tailored right until it seems as if it was made custom, until it seems as if a second skin. We speak in these same terms for the way he holds his limbs, deliberate down to the twitch, do they seem like oil paintings finding animation? Take a suit to say, he doesn't plan to climb through graveyards, through dirt and blood. (But there in lies the problems, he expected Raafe to, prepares for it, yet, here they are.)

Such is usual for Malachi, usual in this dinner with the friend across from him, though usually the meal from a restaurant is called an appetizer in sly tones, this one is real, or it seems that it'll stay that way from the way Raafe sits, how they've been the whole night. Like snowfalls, but when it begins to bury a body. A cruel form of silence Malachi might have asked for before, when he thinks they're going to sing in his ear one time too often. 

Instead, it causes quirked eyebrows and Mal leaning forward in his seat to get their attention, "I'd ask you, if you've been drinking without me, but I know the look when you're drunk," He doesn't keep his voice quiet, doesn't care too, "Or is the drinks we need to start pouring?" He doesn't ask yet what's wrong with them, will when he wants to, will when he has to, will if they don't answer already.
