Development of the next release of Enso is coming along nicely, so we thought now would be a good time to update everyone on how things are going, what to expect from our next release
With the new release of the *buntu 18.04 series there are many upgrades in various projects within Enso including: Gtk 3.22, some elements of Xfce 4.13 and Mutter 3.28 to mention a few.. Along with these various projects within Enso have some changes:
Updates and Additions
AppHive
(a fork of elementary’s AppCenter) - a new software centre to replace Gnome Software, to make installing Deb and Snap packages simple and a little more lightweight than Gnome Software
Galal
a few additions have been made to our integrated WM the main one being the addition of the latest version of mutter, and updates from the Gala main branch from elementary have been rolled into this application, along with some small changes around the Multitasking View and keyboard shortcuts.
Welcome screen
a new Welcome screen will make its first appearance in Enso 0.3, giving new users a select few options to help them get going with the system
Launchy
a revamp of Panther Launcher that sits in Plank instead of having the applications menu in the top panel, with integration with Ecosia providing a ‘search the web’ option with each search.
Improved Gtk theme
Minor changes to the colours of the window control buttons, with a changed default position that is more Mac OS like
Global app menu
Global menus are available as default, integrating the xfce4-appmenu plugin into panel to display a global menu for active applications
Still in development
Galal shortcuts
adding show desktop shortcut and removing default shortcuts that don’t work in Galal
Keyboard config issue on install
an issue that on install where the keyboard shortcuts aren’t always copied across, numerous people have raised this as an issue, the config is being written to xfce4 instead of Gala so this setting is needing to be read
Keep up-to-date
Enso 0.3 is definitely getting there but there are a few more bits required before the next beta version of our system is released, you can keep up with developments via our Github page below or get involved with ideas / suggestions / development via our Gitter Lobby
