It's our fourth Radio Dispatch Live! On tonight's show, we welcome comedians Phoebe Robinson and Aparna Nancherla. We're talking political, social, and cultural commentary in comedy, and maybe we'll get into some identity politics while we're at it! Plus, John and Molly spent the afternoon trolling misogynists on Twitter.
It's our latest Radio Dispatch Live! We're joined by MSNBC producer Jamil Smith, comedian Keisha Zollar, and author Rich Benjamin to discuss Black History Month, the Voting Rights Act, Trayvon Martin, and the overwhelming whiteness and maleness of the Oscars.
Today we are airing an encore presentation of out first Radio Dispatch Live! Our special guests are Rolling Stone and Buzzfeed journalist Michael Hastings, Yemen and al Qaeda expert Gregory D Johnsen, and drone expert Sarah Knuckey. After this, we're back to our normal schedule.
Here it is! Our recording of the first Radio Dispatch Live! We talk Petraeus, the kill list, and a decade of US foreign Policy from Iraq and Afghanistan to Pakistan and Yemen. Our guests are Michael Hastings, Sarah Knuckey, and Gregory D Johnsen.
Your Radio Dispatch LIVE Reading List 11/28/12
In anticipation of our very first LIVE Radio Dispatch, here are some articles to peruse to get you ready. Remember, the show is at le poisson rouge, in the West Village, at 8pm on Wednesday the 28th. No cover, because we love you.
If you haven't read it (or haven't read it since it was first published), start with Michael Hastings' phenomenal report for Rolling Stone, The Runaway General. For more of his war reporting, McCrystal, and the story behind the story, pick up his latest book, The Operators: The wild and terrifying inside story of America's war in Afghanistan.
Next, read Gregory Johnsen's latest op-ed in the NYT, The Wrong Man For The CIA. You probably aren't a huge fan of John Brennan's; after reading this, you will like him even less. Johnsen's new book just came out today (Monday). It's called The Last Refuge: Yemen, al Qaeda, and America's war in Arabia.
Regular listeners are familiar with Sarah Knuckey's work. She is the former advisor to the UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial executions, and currently adjunct professor at NYU's Global Justice Clinic. She is also the co-author of Living Under Drones. You can find John's coverage of that report here.
After years of hosting a live comedy show and a pre-recorded podcast, John and Molly bring their two shows together. Radio Dispatch LIVE will be like Chris Hayes' show, but with beer instead of a pastry plate. Our first show will feature guests Michael Hastings, former UN advisor Sarah Knuckey, and more.
The Facebook event can be found here.
