To Øl Raid Beer & Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Extra, August 2014. I'm doing a two-fer today as we have just passed the August long weekend here in Canada. My friend invited me out with the rest of our gang to his lake cabin out east of Ponoka. As it is the high end of Alberta summer, the scorching weather has not subsided meaning fantastic weather to enjoy craft beers on the beach. The gang was mostly enjoying Kokanee, which I will grant is great when you want to play drinking games as you don't worry about your costs at the end of the day. I had my summer-travel/camping/cabin standard 6-pak of Oskar Blues Dale's Pale Ale (not pictured here however). The adventurer in me also brought these gems to try out. I was extremely excited to find To Øl on the shelves at Keg N Cork last week before heading out. In the last month before departing Europe, I was starting to sample there offerings that were readily available in London. I saw a few of the stouts/porters on the shelves in Vancouver a few weeks ago. Looking on the Liquor Connect website shows that Soltice Trading has brought in seven To Øl offerings, mostly on the IPA and Pils side. At time of typing, it has been a few days since sampling this resulting in myself forgetting the exact flavour notes. I can tell you that it came off with a nice refreshing feel to counter the hot sun that we had been sitting in all day. I look forward to having more of this in the near future. I particularly look forward to trying, and letting you know, about their collaboration with Siren that I also picked up (next post). I am already a fan of the Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale. I first heard about it back in 2011 when I was visiting the girl I was seeing at the time in Athens, Georgia. I didn't get my hands on a pint until the beginning of this year in Camden while out with the girl I was seeing at that point*. I loved the, what I consider, creamy flavour in it. This, being the Little Sumpin' Extra and a Double IPA, I loved more. Still light in feel but big in flavour (again, hazy memory due to sun). Enjoyed this while skipping frisbees/flying disks across the water. (*Don't worry, there was 3 years between the the girl in Georgia and the girl in Camden. Plus, my love life is a whole different story that probably wouldn't be that exciting compared to my beer stories)
