Rain 51db, Sonatine and Everyday I Love You analysis/theories
(Because I love these songs)
I feel like Rain 51db has a bigger importance in the lore of the LOONAVERSE than people give it credit for. Namely in terms of timeline and influence/motives.
1. In the beginning we see moments from the debut solos and group song of 1/3 in the following order: Around You, Love&Live, Let Me In, Everyday I Love You, ViVid. Then the video starts. The description for Rain 51db (written in Sonatine’s description states that LOONA 1/3 time-travels back. So assuming LOONA 1/3’s timeline is linear, then the order of events should go like this:
ViVid —> Everyday I Love You —> Let Me In —> Love&Live —> Around You
(I cling to this a lot when I’m making timelines gesgkoihgdw)
(However, this won’t necessarily apply to all of my timelines)
2. The description for Rain51db also states that LOONA 1/3 have dreams that they do not wake from. This means that any ‘dreams’ they have reflect, even influence, their reality. Maybe they’re memories, visions of the future, lucid parts/places where the members can meet. And I think this ‘dream’ status is signalled by the way it’s filmed; namely if it is based on a VHS tape or not.
Thus we go to Everyday I Love You:
1. Now it’s universally agreed upon that the boy on the left represents Yves. But what about 1/3? Well if you know my views on The Colour Theory, then you can guess where I’m going with this. They’re Choerry and the rest of yyxy.
There are small details that appear in/parallel future mvs: notice how Haseul/Go Won wears a ribbon like in love4eva and wears no hat (or earrings), unlike the other yyxy (y) members; how Heejin/Olivia Hye and ‘Yves’ wear similar white shirts and hats like they wear similar white dresses in new and Egoist; notice how, while everyone else wears mostly monotone clothing, Hyunjin/Choerry has a coat with her signature colour, and also does not wear a head accessory.
This would make ViVi’s dream not just a memory of new, but also of The Carol 2.0, possibly more. In that case, what are the other members here for?
2. There are a few other parts of choreography that I find interesting also shown in the video: Yeojin making Chuu’s ending pose in love4eva, Hyunjin acting sadly as she claps her hands together, etc. But what got me is one specific bit: as the bridge leads into the final verse, we see everyone clicking in time with the music, except Yeojin, who despite wearing a mask, has it uncovered for the whole MV. What if ViVi’s dream is shared with all of the 1/3 members, and Yeojin sends a signal as if to try to communicate with them? How are they sharing this dream?
To answer that latter question, I’d like to bring up Sonatine and ViVid. ViVid is all about how Heejin wants to bring colour into her life, and she specifically asks for red, orange, yellow and green (Kim Lip, Yeojin/Chuu, Hyunjin, Haseul/Go Won). Say after this, Sonatine occurs; the 1/3 members are together but have not met, and Heejin, unknowingly or not, brings out their colours. ViVi, who has her galaxy eye, somehow takes all of their colours in, and ends up projecting them into her memory/dream (though Yeojin isn’t there, she is stuck in a place which may provide her with the power to have lucid dreams). This event then draws them together to form 1/3.
Of course this leads to more questions. Is Yeojin on the plane of another subunit? Where (or who) did ViVi get her galaxy eye from and why is she an android? Where do the other 1/3 songs fit in? I have no clue yet, but feel free to leave comments!
LOONA Love&Live Theory
So it’s pretty collectively known that at the end of Love&Live, ViVi becomes human. But I haven’t really seen any discussion on exactly why that happens. So let’s discuss.
Focusing on the parts during the bridge and last chorus:
We see ViVi walking down a hall, looking at her bag/charging station before pulling out a plug, which causes a timer to be set off in 5 minutes.
When the timer has just passed 4 minutes, she is seen again with her galaxy eye.
We then see ViVi, somewhere on the track presumably, reminiscing on moments with 1/3 and the timer has passed 3 minutes
Finally we get to close to 2 minutes, and we see ViVi pull the plug off her bag before she runs from it down the hallway.
She then runs off the track as the timer has passed two minutes, running past a town or something before she enters a field running towards a fence blocking her from a forest with a small cottage visible.
She is then back to running in a neighbourhood as the timer runs out, and her galaxy eye flashes. The timer says ‘low battery’ before dying, and ViVi’s galaxy eye finally goes out; unlike the other times where she remained unaffected by exercise, she stops to regain her breath, signifying her becoming human (again?)
So what does it all mean?
Well, it’s obvious that the charger is specifically for ViVi’s galaxy eye, and only once it runs out does she become a human. Therefore ViVi can’t have the eye and be human at the same time. Given that we see ViVi make time to charge herself instead of spending it with Hyunjin and Haseul and that she walked slowly as if contemplating before she unplugs her bag, it’s implied that she knew the consequences of losing the eye but made the choice anyway.
In previous choruses (chori?? debate for another day), Heejin sings, “In my day, the problem of you is my biggest homework”, and ViVi joins her to sing, “I wanna solve it one by one”. However in the last chorus, Hyunjin sings Heejin’s part, with ViVi joining her to sing “I spend my days with a frustrated heart”. At the same time in the MV, Heejin passes a yellow baton to Hyunjin, then ViVi reminisces- while Hyunjin and ViVi don’t really have any important connection, I think that Hyunjin with yellow caused ViVi to have a realisation about the Loonaverse. This makes her realise that she needs to become human again.
I’ve basically used up my 10 image limit here, but I’d like to quickly bring up Rain51db: in some scenes, leaves and plants will be visible, and in other scenes, when lit up, the silhouette of a house in front of grass can be seen. Thus I believe that the cottage place seen near the forest is where Rain51db takes place. I also believe the forest is where Yeojin is lost, and where yyxy are in Eden but I’m willing to change my mind about that. Maybe the cottage is actually where love4eva takes place.
I’ll elaborate a bit more when I make more stuff (I say stuff because I don’t know or really care what the plural of analysis is) about videos ViVi appears in, because I think that she’s a key player in the LOONAVERSE.
