Ang Altar ni San Bdoi is an examination of the sequential nature of authority and the attitudes Filipino families have towards corporal punishment, deconstructing the sublimated relationship between atrocities of colonial history and forms of castigation present in contemporary Filipino culture. The work illustrates the extending shadow of violence and how Catholicism humanizes the hierarchy of pain that is made apparent through the collective trauma of the Filipino family.

We are headed to the wilderness of the Visayan archipelago… The largely ungoverned, wild and lawless prostate of the tropics. Present here, in its romantic jungles, an 18 year old Visual Arts student squeals in nervousness.
