A girl he didn't know came up and sat next to him on the deck facing the midnight ocean. After a moment of silence she spoke. "I've never truly dealt with loss." she turned to look him im the eyes. "I've seen people deal with loss. Seen people talk to the grieving person. So I know what I'm supposed to say here. 'I'm sorry for you loss.' and everything like that. But it always sounds empty and hollow. I know what I'm supposed to say, but I won't say it. It wouldn't do anything." he was grateful for that. He didn't think he could handle another one. "And they probably wouldn't want you to grieve them forever. They'll probably want you to keep on living. But I'm not them, so the best I can do is guess." Not grieve them? The most important people in his life? "I can guess what your thinking. 'Not grieve them? Not mourn their irreplaceable lives or their absence?' I'm not saying that. I'm not saying don't mourn them. I'm not saying forget them either. You'll never forget them. You'll probably never truly recover from their loss. And that's okay." He couldn't take it anymore. He threw himself into her, and she hugged him. She stroked his hair the way his mom used to as he cried into her shoulder. "You may not be fine in a year, in two or 10, but once day you'll be okay again. You won't be back to how you were before, you might always be grieving them and that's okay. It's okay to grieve at your own pace, not anyone's elses. Time matters not to the wounds of the heart, mind and soul. And it's okay if you'll never truly be okay again. And if anyone tells you the opposite, then they've never lost someone dear to them again. One day, you might even find some people or person who will could be your new family, not replacing your old one, but simply adding to it." He cried himself to sleep that night. In the arms of a girl who he didn't know as she whispered words more comforting than any other words of comfort. When he woke the next day, she was gone like she had never been there at all. And no matter who he asked, no one else had seen her, or even believed her to be real. But even if she wasn't real, her words to him that she had said that night stayed with him. Even when he met 7 others who became his new family, not replacing his old one, but just simply adding to it, just like she said. He never met her again, and he never expected to. That was way it was such a surprise to see her underground, wearing a crown of flowers he doesn't know the name of and copper.
