This follows 19yr old Jessie as he escapes his Jehovah’s Witness upbringing and moves to the city where he turns to sex work and struggles with his race and sexuality.
Content Warnings: racism, homophobia, sexual assault and content, medical content (specifically HIV/AIDS), child abuse, religious bigotry
What Did I Think?
I thought the writing was really dense and I found it really challenging to read not just because of that but also because of the subject matter. I also thought the pacing was off. However, I think it was a really powerful read, and it had a great impact on me. Stories like this one are so important to be told and heard.
