It’s now officially twenty years since Ridley Scott rejuvenated the “sword & sandals” sub-genre of historical epic cinema, delivering what was, in my opinion, the very best of the year 2000′s screen offerings.  The film turned rising stars Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix into bonafide superstars, as well as saying farewell to screen legend Oliver Reed in his final screen role.  Here’s to two decades of this sheer awesomeness ...

Hahaha I must share this with you, a few days ago I was flicking through Sky channels and I put Men & Motors on, they are showing Conan the Adventurer, at 9pm on weekdays. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conan_the_Adventurer_(TV_series)    It's low budget and features Ralf Moller (I'd never heard of him either, but he has an accent and that's all that matters, oh and apparently he was in Cyborg!) as Conan and Danny Woodburn as his sidekick Otli. It originally ran from 1997 - 1998, I can't believe it lasted 2 seasons.  But it seems muscle-bound fantasy heroes were the late 90's equivalent of our over abundance of Vampires. Around the same time on tv there was also Hercules - '95-'99 (Kevin Sorbo), Xena: Warrior Princess (Lucy Lawless) - '95-'01, Young Hercules - '98-'99 (Ryan Gosling!!).

It is pretty bad, but hilarious, and quite homoerotic. The boys in the office seem to think Ralf looked too old to play Conan, same with Kevin Sorbo as Hercules. Meh both of them have nothing on Arnie, and Jason Momoa. The best bit was the montage scene which lasted about 5 mins! I hope there is one every episode! I recommend it for a laugh, it's good to have on in the background definitely!
