Ralph is retired and lives in the old part of the city with his wife and love of his life, Judith. He has a great sense of humor and loves kids. He tries (and fails) to ‘keep up with the youth’ by listening to popular music and wearing a tacky mix of modern streetwear, along with the more traditional clothing Judith manages to dress him in.
He is the more laid back of the pair, and helps Judith through her mental health episodes. He often puts aside his own beliefs and choices to support hers. He is still in touch with Ryusaki, though not as often as he would like, mainly through unanswered letters and brief phone calls.
Later on, he takes unofficial custody of Maple in the absence of her mother, and the two form a close bond with him becoming a great role model for her.
