04/10 The Residents "Duck Stab" (1978). #theresidents #duckstab #ralphrecords #thecrypticcorporation #porenographics #records #disco (en Santa Elena, Antioquia, Colombia)
Awesome old-school CD delivery today 🤘 "Subterranean Modern" was #RalphRecords' first album involving music from anyone other than #TheResidents or #Snakefinger, like #Chrome, #MX80Sound and #Tuxedomoon 👌 #SpaceRock, #PsychedelicRock, #Avantgarde, #Experimental, #surrealmusic #Industrial & #Electronic (at Värmdö Brukshundsklubb) https://www.instagram.com/p/CfWx1Vujgxa/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
🎼 Tuxedomoon: Half-Mute (1980)
The first album from the San Fransisco based nucleus of Blaine L. Reiniger (violin, guitar, keyboards) and Steven Brown (saxophone, keyboards, lead vocals) in 1980. After two E.P.’s before the time had come to fill an album worth of post-punk experimental new-wave. With Peter Principle on bass guitar the group was complete.
The underground scene at this time was very fertile. That the album was released through Ralph Records is a landmark of this era. Numerous concerts during this period was theatrical shows. They were joined onstage with performance artist Winston Tong and filmmaker Bruce Geduldig. Gradually they got a following, but mainly in Europe. So they eventually relocated to Brussels and the rest is history.
What makes this album stand out? Well, the approach to making music that sounds like nothing else before it. By nodding to the esthetics of punk rock, still in recent memory, adding the craftsmanship of violin and saxophone and being unafraid in composing and performing. This album sounds like no other, sounds like no specific country or culture. It is pure in it’s execution.
