Connor made a promise to Gavin that; when he's done begging the gods to turn him human, he'll live in a farm with Gavin and they'll be together forever.
What Connor doesn't know (along with Gavin), is that all animal and nature whisperers will inevitably return back into specks by mother nature. Because that was what they were before, and what they'll be forever.
So when Connor's wish to become human was granted, he was sent back to Earth thinking he'll have a bright future. What he really returned to was a herd of sheep wandering free without Gavin there to care for them anymore. Because his purpose was completed, while Connor needs to find a new one now.
