Checking out the special spicy green curry paitan ramen with @ramenclubnyc at Ramen Shack. It was my first time having it. I missed having it at the original shop. The broth was rich and creamy. It had a nice shrimpy accent but wasn't very spicy. The braised kakuni pork belly was a nice touch. It was seriously good. Be prepared for a nice nap afterwards. Checking out this new ramen shop near Union Square. I was stoked that another new shop has opened in NYC that doesn't serve tonkotsu. There seems to be a slow new trend of ramen shops moving away from tonkotsu. I ordered their Kitakata ramen. Soy sauce base, chicken and pork broth, white onion, radish sprout, hosaki-bamboo shoot, bara chashu. Added an agitama. It was pretty good. The broth had a nice shoyu flavor without being too salt. The broth could have been much hotter though. It arrived just above luke warm. Please heat your bowls before serving! Noodles were cooked nicely. I liked their bara chashu, a staple of kitakata ramen. The chopped onions and white pepper went really well with the ramen. Overall very solid ramen but price wise it could be a few bucks cheaper for what you get. If I'm craving kitakata style ramen I would opt for Kitakata Ben Nai uptown. Checking out the first soft opening day of @ramenshacknyc's new semi-permanent pop-up home at Tomiz (formerly Cafe Zaiya). Only one item on the menu. The Future Chukasoba: The Rebirth of Shoyu. Chicken niboshi broth, soy sauce tare, niboshi scallion oil, negi pork belly, menma, baby bok choy, naruto, iwonori, Shimamoto noodles. Added an agitama. It was really good! It could have used slightly more shoyu and stronger niboshi flavor.
