rance is just so difficult to engage with because "it's fine when i do it but villainous when someone else does" seems to go beyond rance's personal flawed ideology and extend to being just the whole approach of the series.
you will have rance 03 giving you a genuinely harrowing rape scene with lasting consequences on the character involved immediately followed by rance doing the exact same thing to someone and it being played for laughs.
like, i'm fine with reading these scenes as just fantasy playspaces for rance and the girls he fucks, but it's hard to maintain that mindset when the game is actively highlighting the real and scarring harm that rape can cause literally page turns away. i'm not saying it *necessarily* has to commit to only one of those things, but both come across as disingenuous and non-committal when contiguous with each other.
