The Harry Ransom Center's collection of manuscripts includes 42 million pages of history - from Edgar Allan Poe's handwritten version of The Raven to the archives of Watergate reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein.

The manuscripts collection includes an array of intriguing materials. Some of the highlights include:

Walt Whitman's manuscript material for Leaves of Grass

Manuscripts of novelist Charlotte Perkins Gilman

Handwritten notes from David Foster Wallace for his novels and short stories

Handwritten drafts of William Faulkner's Absalom! Absalom!

John Steinbeck's handwritten notes and drafts for East of Eden

All of Robert De Niro's props and scripts, including his notes

Jack London manuscripts

Oscar Wilde manuscripts

Anyone can research the Ransom Center's holdings in the center's Reading and Viewing Room. The center's digitized collection includes numerous manuscripts among the 22,000 digitized images available for anyone to search anytime.

One of the nation's most renowned research libraries, the Harry Ransom Center advances the study of the arts and humanities by acquiring and preserving manuscripts, rare books, photographs, film and other works of art while supporting research and education.

Founded in 1957, the Harry Ransom Center is now known for having one of the strongest collections of 20th and 21st century British and American literature in the world and for housing the archives of many of the most notable cultural figures of our time.

#UTCountdown is counting the days until the Longhorns kick off football season by celebrating the best of UT off the field.

The football season begins Saturday, Sept. 5, against Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.
