1. Music, movies, video games or books. Choose your favourite and state why.
Books because as Stephen King said “Books are the perfect entertainment: no commercials, no batteries, hours of enjoyment for each dollar spent. What I wonder is why everybody doesn’t carry a book around for those inevitable dead spots in life.” And because with, say watching a film adaptation without having read the book, I think it ruins our perception of a character because you've seen the film beforehand. Also with seeing the film after reading the book but then reading the book again (at a given period of time) you're most likely to remember the portrayal of the character in said film, at least for me.
2. Do you think nationalism is more of a positive thing or a negative thing?
I'm not really sure about this topic so correct me or whatever if I'm wrong. I don't have an opinion whether it is positive or negative but it makes me think of The Philippines, my so called motherland. To be honest I don't even have an identity well there's the whole Filipino/Asian but that's because I was born there but then since I've been practically raised in Europe does it make me a European or what? This has been a conflict in my mind that's going on for quite long now maybe four years at least? Like I don't consider myself as anything. Anyway slightly off topic.
With the motherland I think they're quite proud to have this identity thing. Like for example my dad was given this t-shirt that had this thing saying sth like "Pinoy Pride" or something like that. Idk. (I think this calls for a blog post stay tuned)
3. What do you think about sports? Do you enjoy them or dislike them? Why?
I don't really have anything to do with sport although I did join cross country once because of my lack of exercise (though I walk quite fast) and the thought of running to clear out any thoughts etc seemed like a good idea.
4. Do you tend to show a genuine interest in people you meet immediately upon meeting them, or do you tend to be closed-off from people until they’ve ‘earned your respect’?
I see myself as a mixture of both to be honest. Since I can't really jump into much more detailed talks about a particular subject etc, I have to slowly approach said person and start asking them things that are related to our situation e.g college major. If they seem interesting enough I will continue to keep asking the basics until I find something that I can't really relate to and just walk away ending the relationship as 'somewhat acquaintance'. On the other hand that I do, I try really hard to establish a friendship and blah blah blah.
Although looking at my current friendships my ratio of 'friends to close friends' is something like 2:1. I like to think I have two close friends yet I feel like I'm still the one that's closed-off. I do like to tell them what I really think about such things, what's going on in my life so far (in a more 'mature' sense) but it's not often simply because it might not interest them hence wasting their time and obviously mine. Sure it's good to know that if they really are your close friend, they would stick-no-matter-what but there comes a time where the people you think enjoy your company regardless of what, actually get sick of you.
5. Who is your favourite fictional character and why?
I don't know, I have yet to choose one. :P
6. Who is your favourite real-life person and why?
As cliché as it sounds I'm gonna say my mom (well so far). I think for my age and looking at people I know around me, I'm probably the most 'lucky' or 'privileged' (if you like) and that's all thanks to my mom. She has worked so hard to get me to the stage where I am now. Selfless but can be selfish once in a while because she deserves it. Like she puts our needs first, if we are in need of something she's always there to assist and all that. Basically she just runs the extra mile. My mom is probably one of the coolest moms ever well according to my friends and now I'm starting to see it a bit lol. Hm I don't really know what else to say other than I just really appreciate her.
7. Do you want to pursue a specific career or are you undecided/going with the flow?
When I was a child I was so sure of what I wanted to be but now I'm just going with the flow tbh. Well what I mean by the flow is in relation to what field I'm roaming around in but hey things outside my field are also considered.
8. Do you think artists should create art to appeal to their fans’ tastes or to pursue their own artistic interests. For example, would it be okay for an artist to create something deliberately designed to anger their own fanbase for the sake of artistic expression?
I say to each one's own. While other people may not approve of that artistic expression, that artist is still expressing their opinion as you do with writing. If said artist likes to pursue their own art but then appeals to the fans' tastes then that's cool too. Yeah people might think they're "wasting talent" or whatever but if that's what the artist wants to do then why are they being stopped. Besides at some point the artist will get tired of appeasing fans therefore will ease into changing, which is natural really.
9. If you could go back in time and tell your younger self something that would make his/her life easier or better, would you do so? Why?
I would tell my younger self to be more consistent. I think that's one thing I'm always struggling(?) with. If I started well at the top then I should keep it that way. Drops are okay but I mean I think to achieve something you have to be consistent in what you're doing. (But I was really good at being consistent though but not so much anymore hm :\ )
10. Does the concept of ‘equality’ focus more on having equal opportunity to succeed but also to fail, or a guaranteed equal status in which nobody can rise above or fall below anybody else?
In my opinion I think it focuses more on the latter. I think the first one just bases it on sole opportunity because anyone can have an opportunity but we can choose to succeed or fail. However in real life that doesn't happen much either because it's like there's still that barrier to this so called equality.
11. Do you like raspberries?
On their own not really :\ I do like them on cheesecake though.
