My thoughts on Rasenth's sexism comic

Although I know that Rasenth’s starting point is good, to be honest, I think the logical response of this comic is very unreasonable. It is not so much that the two sexes lack mutual understanding or do not know how to accept each other, as it is the contempt and negation of people of different gender characteristics by the traditional mainstream society. After all, all people of the same sex will harm the same sex. Perhaps it should not be said that there are prejudices between men and women but the perpetrator (mainstream) oppresses the victim (non-mainstream) unilaterally. I think the author drew the part where two people quarreled and required mutual understanding. It might be more appropriate to change the two people to stand up and resist malicious gossip. After all, in addition to cisgender and heterosexual, there are also homosexual, bisexual, and transgender people in the world. Non-traditional gender, just mentioning the issue of men and women may make the more marginalized people be ignored. (The irony is that Rasenth talked about a bunch of boys being weak and discriminated against, and later said that the two sexes lacked understanding of each other. This Rasenth's rhetoric is too double standard.) I admit that the so-called equality and tolerance are inherently impossible to achieve immediate results. Since both men and women and other non-mainstream genders will be discriminated against, we must not just make the two sexes understand each other, but learn to recognize and resist these abnormal voices.

This comic reminds me our reading from Impact of a Gender-Transformative HIV and Antiviolence Program on Gender Ideologies and Masculinities in Two Rural, South African Communities. Then I have read it, I was surprised to see that many research showed the “ideals of masculinities that emphasize male dominance and relationship control are harmful for both men’s and women’s health (WHO 2010)”. It also showed that men who follow “the dominant masculine norms have worse mental health (Sharpe and Heppner 1991) and general well-being (O’Neil 2008)”. They tend to controlling their partners and involve in “high-risk sex (Schensul, Nastasi, and Verma 2006; Courtenay 2000; Santana et al. 2006), and avoid health care clinics (Falnes et al. 2011; Montgomery et al. 2006)”. This comics are very good examples for same sexism hurts both men and women.
