As they went into the archives, Robin followed Nancy as she felt inferior to the brunette. Academically speaking, she was smarter than her, which made her feel quite threatened. She was also organised, it seems, which Robin definitely was not, and more sensible. Less impulsive. Everything that Robin wished she was for her mother’s benefit. “So… any specific newspapers we need to be looking at?” Robin asked, rocking on her heels slightly.
“You stay here, I will grab them,” Nancy answered, going down. Doing as told, Robin stayed there, fidgeting with her rings as she was biting her lip and rocking her heels. Feeling awkward, she sighed and threw her head back. After what felt like an eternity but was probably more like 5 minutes, Nancy came back and approached Robin. “Here, start looking through these,” she instructed, handing over a full bag of archives. Nodding, Robin sat down at one of the microfilm readers and inserted a random one in. Going through one by one, and what seemed like forever (which was 30 minutes in actuality), Robin decided to ask a question.
Leaning over, she looked towards Nancy's side. “Sooo… what are we looking for exactly?” Robin asked with a confused look. After a few seconds of silence, she spoke again. “Nance?” she asked, even using her nickname, she wasn’t sure she could even use it with her, but thought it would get her attention. Knocking on the side 5 times in a rhythm, she finally got the academic’s attention. Irritated, Nancy just looked at her, not answering her question. “Anything about wizards or dark powers, anything in that vein?” she added, trying to get through to her. That made Nancy snap, closing her eyes before she responded.
“I don’t know. Ok?” she answered, standing up. “It seems this was just a big waste of time, and you’re obviously bored, so why don’t you just call Steve?” she snapped, and Robin looked surprised at that. ‘Is this about her potential still there crush on Steve?’ Robin thought in her head. “I’m sure he’ll pick you up, and I mean… I’m not really in danger here, so…” Nancy finished, practically stomping to where the other archives were. Robin opened her mouth to speak, but Nancy was already gone.
Rushing to follow her, she quickly went down the steps and almost tripped down them. She played it off by holding onto the railing at least. She didn’t want to embarrass herself in front of someone she had secretly admired from afar. “You do know that Steve and I are, like, totally not a thing, right?” Robin started. Nancy was confused, yet still irritated.
“What?” she asked, turning towards Robin with her face scrunched in confusion, looking at Robin leaning against the rail. At that, Robin moved towards her.
“So I figured you and Jonathan are still going strong because you guys are going to college and whatever. You’re like one of those unstoppable power couples, but I just… just wanted to make sure that you knew that Steve and I are just friends. Like, platonic with a capital P,” Robin finished, sighing as she was going towards a drawer in the corner, having an idea. “Just… in case that’s adding any tension between us,” she added. “Plus I only like girls,” she murmured under her breath. Still annoyed, Nancy turned towards her, showing her annoyance clearly again which Robin didn’t seem to get. It frustrated her.
“It wasn’t,” she answered sassily. “And what was the last bit?” she asked. Robin shrugged at that. “Oh nothing,” she hummed. “Nothing important at all,” she added. Nancy just raised an eyebrow at her but didn’t push it. She knew what she had heard after all. As Robin dug through the drawer, Nancy dug through her own. “Holy shit,” Robin started, making Nancy turn towards her. “The Weekly Watcher. I can’t believe they have this,” Robin started with a grin. It was one of her guilty pleasures after all. “Don’t they write about Bigfoot and UFO’s?” Nancy asked, confused what was going through Robin’s brain.
“First of all, UFO’s are absolutely real. No doubt. Bigfoot… eh. Still on the dence about,” Robin answered with a shrug. Nancy just raised an eyebrow at that. “BUT may I remind you we are looking for information on dark wizards. If someone will write about it… it will be these weirdos,” Robin finished, proud of herself and her thinking. ‘Maybe I am useful mom!’ she thought to herself.
Taking that suggestion, Nancy dragged Robin towards the microfilm reader again. “By the way, I don’t care about your friendship with Steve. Even if you are gay,” Nancy voiced out. Robin tensed, before nodding.
“And you are ok with that?” Robin asked as she bent down, putting the microfilm in as she was nervous for her answer. She couldn’t hide it, it was ebbed in her voice. “I am. No judgement here,” Nancy answered. “I mean, I am going to Emerson after all,” she decided to do a quick joke. Robin quickly turned to her, widened her eyes before she nodded.
“Yeah, ok, alright. Fair,” was her response before her brain started to work again. ‘Mayne I have a chance’ Robin thought before she shook the thought out of her head. “So… you wanna sit and look or…?” Robin enquired, pointing towards the single chair. “I can stand,” Nancy hummed, leaning against the machine. With a dry throat, Robin sat down and hoped Nancy couldn’t hear her heart beating otu her chest.
As it started, they saw the first title. “Ah, Elvis cloned by aliens,” was Nancy’s only comment, a look of disbelief on her face.
“You never know,” Robin spoke, looking up at her with a shrug, a bit of red on her face. Nancy looked at her, then back up and rolled her eyes before she walked away, letting Robin take a look as she knew she would hear a lot of Robin’s opinions if she stayed near. After a bit, Robin’s voice came out again, but this time, in a dramatic tone. “Victor Creel claims vengeful demon killed family,” Robin relayed off the screen, looking back at Nancy who didn’t even look back. “The murder that shocked a small community,” Robin continued. “Ha ha. That’s very funny,” Nancy retorted, rolling her eyes again.
“I’m. Not. Kidding. Get over here,” Robin commanded, shocked it was her this time admittedly. Going over with a confused yet hopeful look, Nancy looked at the screen. “According to several insiders, Victor believed his house was haunted by an ancient demon. Victor allegedly hired a priest to exorcise the demon from his house,” Robin read from the screen. Nancy processed the information, thankful Robin was reading as well as if to double check she was reading it right too. Bewildered, she was just glad they found something. “Pretty novel for the 50’s. Exorcist wasn’t even out yet,” Robin infodumped, before Nancy told her off, telling her to keep going. Flustered, Robin did as told. “So… Victor claimed this exorcism failed but it angered the demon which then murdered his family, removing their eyes,” Robin started again, glancing up at Nancy at the end. The academic just kept looking at the screen, reading and processing. “Victor believed he was spared as a punishment,” Robin finished. “Pretty convenient for him though,” Nancy added.
“Yeah… or super inconvenient,” Robin rebutted, looking at Nancy again. Nancy just looked back at her again. “Victor was declared legally insane by the court, tight? What if this is why? I mean… it sounds pretty insane. Just didn’t go public because-” Robin added, before she was interrupted.
“The plea bargains. The records were sealed,” Nancy finished, shocked she was believing this. Then again, it was also entirely possible.
“What if a demon did invade Victor’s home?” Robin asked, a small grin on her face. “It’s just… this demon wasn’t any old demon…” Robin finished, Nancy looking at her again and god Robin felt weak.
“It was Vecna,” Nancy finished, looking at her. Robin just nodded, a smile on her lips with a blush. “You are intelligent at some things,” Nancy complimented her.
“Me?” Robin asked shocked. “Tell my mother that. She’d get a heart attack,” she tried to joke, still grinning. She noticed how Nancy looked at her. There seemed to be something behind Nancy’s eyes, not that Robin could tell what it was. “Yes! It may not be… convenient but you do have something inside your head at least,” Nancy responded, looking down at her still. Daring not to stand up, Robin kept sat down, blushing at the praise. “Psh… no,” she denied, going to look away when Nancy reached towards her and grabbed her chin before she made Robin face her again. “No. Don’t deny it. I wouldn’t have found the information at all without you here,” Nancy forced her to understand, and Robin nodded, looking away with her eyes as she knew it was true. “You’re easily flustered, huh?” Nancy teased, her fingertips on Robin’s neck pulse. She felt her fast Robin’s heart was beating.
“No,” Robin tried to defend herself, looking at Nancy again before she glanced down at her lips. “You are. I wonder what would happen if I did this,” Nancy added, starting to lean down. She felt the taller girl’s pulse speed up, felt her hitched breath as Robin also started to breathe heavier. “You’re so hot,” Nancy murmured under her breath and Robin whimpered.
“Can I kiss you?” Robin asked, looking at her. Dragging her up by her collar, Nancy answered by pinning her down against the other machine that was unused and started to kiss her deep. Letting out a low, satisfied groan, Robin kissed back, holding Nancy’s waist gently as she kept kissing her.
Holding Robin by the collar still, Nancy kissed her as desperately as possible. She felt happy with Robin, Robin actually believed in her and did anything she said. At the same time she could also argue back if needed, like with the article. Thinking of that, she pressed herself against Robin, her free hand starting to rub the hem of Robin’s jeans and sweater. “Fuck Nance,” Robin vocalised, her breath heavy and her heart beating faster than it ever had. “Fuck,” she repeated. Nancy smirked. “Can we kiss again?” the taller girl asked.
“Only if you announce that it’s true to everyone with me,” Nancy hummed. Nodding, Robin kissed her again and Nancy was holding her collar tighter (making sure Robin wasn’t choking either) before she started to trail her hand under Robin’s shirt, still rubbing the hem of her jeans though. She didn’t dare risk to touch her in public just yet, kissing was fine though it seemed. When Robin gasped, Nancy started to french kiss Robin, who responded eagerly. She still let the smaller girl take advantage of her, but she was starting to get a little turned on. After a few seconds, Robin pulled away. Nancy looked confused.
“I am so sorry… I was… getting a bit turned on,” Robin admitted embarrassed.
“Oh, you were huh? You should come to my house when we finally kill this son of a bitch. I can… show you a good time,” Nancy answered. Nodding, Robin started to calm down.
“Should we tell Dustin now?” Robin asked. Nodding, Nancy smiled.
“Yeah, good idea,” she spoke, putting everything away with Robin before they left the library.
Robin grabbed the walkie talkie from her pocket as she started to contact them. “Nancy’s a genius. Vecna’s first victims date back to 1959. That shot in the dark? Bullseye,” Robin walkie talkied, still breathless and flustered. Nancy stayed beside her as she was thinking of how to present the theory to them all and also a potential plan on how to speak to Victor. They needed to after all. Safe to say, she was happy she was paired with Robin and she would always choose her from now on. She was brought out of her thoughts when Robin spoke. “So… not going strong with Jonathan?” she asked.
“Our relationship has been over for a while… I didn’t want to admit it thoug. You have helped me confront that,” Nancy answered casually. Robin nodded, grinning. She was glad to know Nancy was serious about her at least.
