"Heyyyyyyy!"
Sola dropped into the booth next to Ravi with a smile on her face that bordered on manic.
They'd barely spoken since he quit. Any conversation barely qualified as that at all. Everything was unemotional, logistical. On his last day, she'd hugged him and wished him luck, but it may as well have been a handshake with how wooden it was.
The old familiarity with which she scooted in next to him was foreign now, but she was however many drinks in after a pregame at Easy's and Mavis being willing to ply them both with shots on the house. She was feeling loose and brave and so, so angry.
She'd excused herself from her new friend's side to take a trip to the bathroom, only to turn in the exact opposite direction in search of Ravi with the determination of a heat-seeking missile.
"Where's your friend?" she asked, her too-wide smile still firmly on her face.
Whoever that friend was, she'd inadvertently ruined Sola's night. She'd been having a great time, dancing and leaning into an effortless new friendship, when she'd caught a sight between bodies and strobes that sent her heart plummeting into her stomach and her mood into the depths of hell.
Someone's hand was on Ravi's chest. She leaned in to say something and then stayed glued to his side was they laughed. It was intimate. Familiar. It made Sola positively incandescent with rage.
"You guys looked pretty cozy out there."
