I finally found the time to work also on my own turntable. I removed the stock RCA cables from my Thorens TD-160 to install new OFC Van Damme cables with gold plated Neutrik connectors (originally designed for Technics SL-1200 tables. As usual, I also rewired the ground connection in order to use the ground wire available with the Van Damme and notoriously absent from the old Thorens decks. I obtained a huge improvement in terms of much lower noise, much more transparent and detailed sound, and of course an extension of both the lower and higher frequency ranges. Wonderful! As of now, the only upgrades I made on my turntable were the Funk Firm Achromat replacing the original mat, and the dampening of the bottom board with tar sheets. I had also installed larger, dampened feet. It’s running with a Grado Signature 8MX cartridge with a Grado Gold1 stylus.
