Plywood model of our listening device, from our workshop at the V&A with Collective Design School for LDF19 ‘Make Bigger Ears’ Made in collaboration with Akvile Terminaite and Michael Tsang, curated by the museum’s resident artist Ella Britton. Photography by us, modelled by Sindhi Breshani.
‘Make Bigger Ears’ was our group workshop as part of Collective Design School at the Victoria & Albert museum by resident artist Ella Britton. The week long programme consisted of design inspired workshops, classes and discussions run through public submission for London Design Festival 2019 and curated by Britton. Working together with Akvile Terminaite and Michael Tsang (both also MA IED at the RCA), we were interested in trying to encourage listening as a research method.
Prototype-ing listening devices to start with, we eventually laser cut a simple shape that could be folded into a wearable ‘big ear’ that would alter one’s perception of the immediate space through sound. Inside is printed our manifesto that was meant to be read to the wearer by another person. A large scale version of the ears was made in plywood.
Paper prototypes for a drop-in workshop that we‘ll be running next Monday 16th Sep, inside The Globe at the V&A. ‘Make better ears’ invites designers and creatives to make their own aural probe with us, and to rethink their immediate surroundings👂(more info via collectivedesign.school) #activelistening #probes #ears #collectivedesignschool #rcaied (at Victoria and Albert Museum) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2UDnQbDoy7/?igshid=yfzbc6032ijf
